The French Connection is always be special, simply because of the gritty style and the energy from the real and uncontrolled scenes in the chase.

I actually think that The Bourne Supremacy had a better car chase than The Bourne Identity.

Ronin also has to be mentioned. The scenes where the cars are hurtling against the uncoming traffic on the narrow streets...incredible.

Others may be more technically advanced, etc., but Bullitt had the Charger and the Mustang, and hands down the coolest bad guy in cinematic history, (the driver) at least when you consider he didn’t utter a single word, and was on the screen for only a minute or two — that dude was COOOOOOOLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I haven’t read it posted yet, but DUEL

With Dennis Weaver being stalked by the trucker who didn’t like that he was passed on that California Highway.

Hands down: the best was DUEL

The Bullitt chase, posted at youtube.

There’ll be goofs, by the way, even in the best. Here, for instance, we have the magic — well, I’d rather not spoil it.

Kirk chasing Khan through the Mutara Nebula.

He's intelligent, but inexperienced and his his patterns indicate 2 dimensional thinking.

although I'm kinda partial to any car chase from the "Naked Gun" series ..........

LOL, I love the part when John Houseman instructs the lady student driver on how to flip the bird.

I voted for French Connection, fourth in their poll after Bullitt, Blues Brothers, and Ronin, but to me the all-time best was Terminator 3. Totally awesome.

Bullitt, French Connection.

I agree. But IMO, Bullit set the standard and French Connection perfected it.

For comedic efforts, Blues Brothers and Raising Arizona (car, truck, foot and dog chases all wrapped together on that one) are the best.

I guess it doesn’t count as a movie, but one of the most exciting things I’ve seen involved a TROLLEY in San Francisco on an episode of McMillan and Wife, with Rock Hudson, as I remember jumping back and forth from car to trolley, in the ONLY episode of M and Wife I ever saw. It was really something. And then in 2nd place would be BEN HUR/then of course Bullitt.

Coolest guy ever. Steve McQ.

Damned right. And even though it was a motorcycle, his chase scene in "The Great Escape" should be up there as well.

He also did some of the actual driving. Bullit was by far the greatest car chase, although the rest of the movie was a dud.
