PALMDALE - The refurbished passenger terminal at LA/Palmdale Regional Airport and a United Express jetliner will be on display from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at an open house intended to introduce Antelope Valley residents to United's new flights to San Francisco. Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford will preside at the dedication of the terminal building. He will be joined by other elected officials, members of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners and Los Angeles World Airports and United Airlines officials.
"We are very pleased with the progress being made to prepare LA/Palmdale Regional Airport for jet service by a major worldwide airline like United," Ledford said.
The terminal is at 41000 20th St. East, north of Avenue P, on a 60-acre site at Air Force Plant 42. To ready the terminal for the new passenger flights, Los Angeles World Airports repaved the access road and parking lot, installed new lighting and installed Transportation Security Administration screening equipment.
United flights to San Francisco begin June 7. United will offer two daily round trip flights to its hub at San Francisco International Airport where travelers can transfer to other flights. Under the terms of its agreement, United will fly in and out of Palmdale for no less than 18 months. The Palmdale terminal will offer travelers free parking for up to 30 days.
In LAWA's announcement of the open house, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said: "The opening of LA/Palmdale on June 7 is a major step toward realizing our city's goal of a truly regional approach to meeting the growing demand for air travel in Southern California."
