Pardon the vanity, but the laptop I am working on right now has an LCD Screen that keeps getting horizontal lines across it and three or four times tonight has had the entire bottom half of the screen go white on me. This laptop is a D**l, and contrary to how "America voted" my experience with their customer service has not been very good. So, considering a new LCD screen for the laptop will be very expensive, I figured why not go for a new laptop?
I like to listen to music, do some graphics work and web work, do genealogy, surf, do email, and occasionally will play cards on the computer. I use the computer each Sunday when I teach a Sunday school class.
I've been leaning HP, because I have had good experiences with HP and Compaq products in the past, but was wondering what everyone else would recommend for the type usage I have?
My D**l is only around 2-3 years old and gets heavy usage.
The brand that DiscountLaptops sells the most of is Sager, which is little known. They are a major manufacturer of high end gaming laptops under other brand names, such as Alienware.
So I'd go to the DiscountLaptops site and choose based on features and price.
But in cases like this, where I don't know just what I want, a place such as DiscountLaptops.com is better, since it guides one to good choices.
Check out Samsung...they are making some amazing laptops right now. As well as a lot of other very high quality stuff.
Must run/contain Microsoft Word.I mean, how difficult should it be to find one? These websites are impenetrable.
Must have a non-Intel graphics card (min. 128MB)
I have at least three MS Office CD’s. I thought I’d get a hassle if I tried to activate them on a new unit.
Best suggestion I’ve seen, but probably too expensive.
As far as full specs on laptops, try places like Alienware, Cyberpower, or Hypersonic -- they're generally higher-end units, but you do get to see pretty much exactly what they put in them.
Dell may have the replacement warranty, but the first thing they told me to do when the screen started to act up was to take my computer apart and reseat my own screen. I did. It fixed the issue, for a day. Had a problem burning CDs. “It’s a software issue buy new software” Software, I downloaded from them, didn’t have a key to unlock it. 43 emails, hours of phone calls and lots of frustration later, they did make good on my refund. I wouldn’t rank them the worst, but they are not the best by far. I will probably go to my local Circuit City or Best Buy and see what I can find. I know both of them have treated me well locally when I have had to return things.
