Time for another Catholic-bashing post, I see. Nothing the Evil One likes better than Protestant Christians and Catholic Christians beating up on each other, except maybe Protestants beating up on other Protestants.

Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know that I am
Be still and know
Be still
Be

I particularly like the sixth line. It seems we are all too busy jibber jabbering in prayer that we never stop to listen in silence. I disagree with everything that was written above!!!!!!!!

NOt so sure about CHuck Swindoll being into contemplative prayer so much. I really enjoy him and think he is a great Christian man and respect him. The rest I don’t care too much about.

Kinda interesting. There are so many ways to pray. King David used to strip his clothes off and dance. (For good reason I do not do that). My dear friend prays with his eyes open and paces. My granddaughter lies flat on the ground on the ground. Isn't it all communication between you and God the Father? I pray out loud, I pray silently, I pray in song, I pray without ceasing. Why would anyone presume to tell me how to pray?

"King David used to strip his clothes off and dance. "

No officer, really, I was just exercising my First Amendment right.

I love you so much!
Thank you. You are in my prayers today.

Personally as a mother, I think that God the Father just likes that we spend time with Him.
I know I love when my kids spend time with me.

I have always used an acronym to guide me on how to pray.

A C T S

Adoration
Confession
Thanksgiving
Supplication

While you can have a talk with the Father in many different ways the Bible does give us a template for "prayer".

Psalm 46 does not, in any way, provide context for contemplative prayer.

"Be still" could also be rendered "be at peace".

And what are we to know about God from Psalm 46?

We are to know that God is a/an:

-refuge

-strength

-ever-present help in trouble

-fortress

Because of these things, Israel was to be at peace; They were to a have a fearless trust in God.

This passage does advocate meditating in silence to commune with God or to get new revelation from God.

I gotta tell you, I’m pretty fine with the way I pray and if you don’t like it, well, go take a long walk. I really don’t think you ought to be trying to regulate prayer. It’s sort of a personal thing, don’t you think? If you feel you deserve a medal for how you do it, great. If you feel I’m going to Hell because I don’t do it like you, I can live with you thinking that. If you feel your religion has it right, good for you. I will still sleep soundly tonight, after I give thanks to Him - as I do numerous times during the day for whatever I feel I should. One last thing: The Roman Catholic Monks/Priests were clearly offering an additional form of prayer, one that might have made some others pray a little more often. Do you really need to take such offense? I hope this site is not going to exploit differences between Catholics and Protestants (there are many!). Let’s try to play nice in the sandbox, shall we? We have much to be thankful for today with the partial birth abortion ban and enough in common that I think we can do without pedantic preaching.

And one more thing:

“Thus, those who practice and promote Contemplative Prayer are really an abomination unto the LORD! “

If the above statement means we don’t have to spend eternity together, I think I will thank God for that as well.

Psalm 119:52

I meditate on your age-old regulations; O Lord, they comfort me.

Why would anyone presume to tell me how to pray?

Because there are busy bodies who believe that you must reach specific spiritual milestones in order for your prayers to be heard by God. You must be a specific type of Christian, other wise your prayers are a waste of air, according to the posted article. It's that judgementalism that causes more harm than good.
