I came here in 1998 looking for conservative, logical, thoughtful conversation and debate on the things that matter to us the most. I was a Reagan Republican. One of those who had watched in horror as our embassy staff in Tehran was taken by fanatics. The answer should have been overwhelming force, but it was Carter, that limp-wristed, cant-we-just talk-this-out, weakling who had made the military a shambles, and stripped it of its soul because of VietNam. I knew from the beginning that there was no room in this world for weakness and that was the beginning of my road to conservatism.
Now here we are, in the beginnings of a campaign to deny the Democrats not only the White House, but the two houses of Congress. It is extremely early in this race, the leading candidates that have announced are far from acceptable to a large majority of us. Yet, day after day on this site we have the Rudy machine, the McCain people, Mitts people, and every other supported candidate backer posting missives about their guy. Some are repeated vitriol that has no debatable content, and only begs to be ignored. Some of it is the adage of Dont like it, too bad. He will be our candidate. In the past Ive seen posters here who were thoughtful, logical, literally passionate about impeaching Clinton, but with a HUGE degree of civility.
What is taking place here, and I am guilty of it too, so dont think I am pointing fingers here, is the destruction of what is good about this site. WE ARE CONSERVATIVES, first and foremost. We have our passions that lead us to the candidates we have running. Debate is the give and take of ideas to reach a consensus about a direction. A direction we should all look at for the country, not because of the he can beat Hillary dogma, but because the candidate we choose is THE one to carry what our hopes and dreams are for this great nation. I have seen posters here demean others, insult integrities, bash people they DONT EVEN KNOW ON A PERSONAL LEVEL, and generally look like some of the slime that lurks on DU.
We are supposed to be better than that. Its time we stop acting like we cannot debate without insult, stop treating each other as if our opinions dont matter or our vote. Its time that Jim starts looking around and suspending or closing some accounts for this type of behavior until it gets under control.
We are not DU here. The candidate we vote to carry the platform will be the one who reaches out to the most diverse among us. If that doesnt happen for your candidate, Im sorry. But to stoop to some of the tactics Ive seen here based on a persons opinion or religion is despicable and speaks poorly for all of us.
Not content to get any reply, you insist on getting the reply you demand?
Why don’t you just post to yourself; maybe you’ll get the answers you need to hear.
Face it, those "gotcha" questions are worthy of asking. They are the questions that I would ask the candidates myself if I had the opportunity.
That they’re stupid as a post?
You're wasting your own time being in this thread.
I have one vote. I will not cast it in the direction of a pro-abortionist. Those who would sacrifice their core principles and chose a pro-abortionist just because they think he can "win" are going to be in for a rude awakening. He can't.
I'm not going to feel guilty if Hillary is president on January 21, 2009. Those who were stupid enough to think that a pro-abortion republican could defeat a pro-abortion democrat will be the ones who will need to hang their heads in shame.
How wonderful! I have not been there but my brother and sister in law told me all about their visit.
The election is almost 18 months away yet so I hate to see this fighting going on. I, too, will vote Pub no matter what but we HAVE to have somebody who is strong against the fanatical terrorists, and Islam in general.
If we lose that war, all is lost.
Many other issues like abortion, are guided by our own moral standards.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
I guess I made a mistake thinking this thread was about manners and civility. Silly me.
What disgusts me the most are the posters who declare they will not vote if their man is not the candidate. Men have fought and died for us to have the privilege to vote and some want to throw that sacrifice away? *SPIT*
That's very sane logic.
PS: There aren't millions out there like you.
What the hell happened to better wear your flame proof jamies
FR is not a ,can't we all get along site,it's a site where we fight for what's right!
See no bad words,no hurt feelings:)
I don’t know if I believe that. We get up-to-the-minute, in-depth coverage everytime a politician sneezes; Everyone’s got an opinion about everything. I think we just need to get our message out more.
H, that's you.
Spare me.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
It's because of the 'real conservatives' like Tancredo that the immigration debate got fever-swamp nuts, turning off many independents and insuring that we'll get an amnesty bill and little if any border fence.
Nice going!
You did the GOP proud.
Another example was that insane decision on Dubai Ports.
No matter how you type it, you’re still all too willing NOT to help the rest of us save the country from the liberals just because of your personal agenda.
If I pick a candidate who doesn’t win the primaries, I’m going to support WHOEVER the nominees is.
The people to blame are the ones who walk off in a snit because they don’t believe in majority rule.
That would be you.
The ChiComs used to have no compact warheads--until the likes of Wen Ho Lee (under the umbrella of Bill Richardson, flaming away at former FReeper Notra Trulock [Code Name Kindred Spirit]) vacuumed up all our warhead data onto a handful of disks and lost them.
The treason of Clinton & Clinton, altogether with their fascist mailed fist (viz. Waco; Gonzales, Elian), their serial audits of enemies, their FBI files on enemies were merely prelude.
We are told by Richard Miniter and Monsoor Ijaz and others the Clintons couldn't be bothered to accept Osama bin Laden.
In fact, they embraced terrorists, pardoned terrorists, created whole walls of bureaucracy to protect terrorists.
We cannot, we must not, allow them access again to the levers of our power.
The drawbridge will be down, the surveillance and NSA sigint will be de-energized.
The lights will go out in the shining city on the hill.
I can endure some playground immaturity considering the prize at stake.
My great to the fifth fought King George for it, while a third remained loyal to the monarch, and a third wanted no truck with any of it.
Once more into the fray.
The Republic shall be saved; Mrs. Alinsky to the contrary notwithstanding.
Three words: Commander in Chief.
AreHillary and Guiliani the same? I think not and how about asking the troops for their opinion?
Well stated. I understand "wingnuts" but from whence came the word? Are there nuts on the far outer end of wings?
My job isn't to define every right winged politician running for president. That's what campaigns are for. If they can't state their own positions themselves, then they should seek some other line of work, and I ain't gonna bother voting for or supporting that candidate who is not only wasting their time, but everyone elses.
