UNABLE to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, a childless couple in southern India hanged themselves. The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C.N. Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found yesterday in their home in a suburb of Hyderabad.

Police said the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years, called Puppy, and hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom.

"The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29," said police inspector V. Anantaiah.

i had a Irish setter who was a lot smarter than three people who showed up sometimes to get their pay checks, i didn't say they worked for me thanks to the union and the NAALCP. he also was a good judge of character. i had to pull him back when my boss came to my home one evening. he was going to go thru the screen door to get him.we later found out he was very protective of the house when we weren't home i still miss him that was 1989 rest in peace "sargie"

My first dog, Porkchop, isn't freeze-dried, but I do have her ashes in a box on my computer desk. I do not have time to share how much she has meant to us during some of the most horrible times of our lives, including helping us raise our daughter.

We knew she was dieing from cancer, so a week before she died, we made a video, and took all the pictures we could. It helped ease the pain of her loss, but I look forward to the moment I reach heaven, see my Lord, and once again get to play catch with Porky.

They use to say that about girlfriends (coming from a guys perspective) and I can attest to the fact it works.

Wait, wait....are you saying you went out and bought a new girlfriend?

Isn't that....you know...illegal?...>;)

I have heard of people who have had their pets stuffed and mounted, like a deer head. We love our dogs, but I don't think I would like that.

When we lost our 13 year old dog we had the remains cremated (at a reputable crematorium) and spread them at his favorite park.

We lost a dog we had had for 16 years, and we had him cremated and his ashes are in an urn, along with his picture. At the time I just couldn't face the thought of discarding his little body on a trash dump, which is what would have happened. We thought about burying him, but our soil is so hard and rocky, cremation seemed the perfect solution.

Don't you think you should go thru the entire greiving process first? Getting another pet right away is a mental crutch to avoid mental pain and suffering.

I didn't have pets growning up, and after my very 1st dog died(when I was 34 and I hadn't had a child yet), I'm SO glad I waited a couple months to get another dog.

over the loss of "Puppy."

There was the solution to their problem, right in the dog's name. As in "Puppy", go get another one.

No, get another dog right away, it heals the hurt. I am speaking from experience, I have owned and lost dozens of dogs. A dearly beloved dog can be replaced, the old one won't be forgotten (I still miss Tootie) but you have the new one (Cookie) to love and focus your attention on. I have lost a child too and there is no comparison in the experiences. A child can't be replaced and you must spend time grieving. People who try to put it behind them with drugs and alcohol or another relationship are using a crutch and they are just fooling themselves.

The best treatment for the loss of a pet is to get another pet.

That's what I did. Now I have a Ragdoll kitten that is hanging out with me and trying to chase the cursor on the screen. Too cute.

My favorite kitty, Jonathon died two years ago. I was depressed about it.

I wouldn't have done something like this. Jonathon would not have approved.

I believe you have explained this in your opening sentence "I have owned and lost dozens of dogs". I REALLY think you need to wait after the 1st one goes. Subsequent ones can be replaced easier.

SOME people treat their dogs like a child instead of a pet. For THOSE people, waiting is very important.

You seem to have a pretty well balanced nature about such things(given your horrible experience). Getting another dog right away works for you because of it. But for those who anthropomorphize their pets, they need more time. This couple is a perfect example.

I know you'd never do this over the loss of a pet, but for those who think about taking such drastic actions, they need to grieve properly.
