I was wondering if any fellow Freepers have tried the new medication Chantix for quitting smoking. I am on day 6, and I haven't had any results at all - per my husband, quite the opposite actually - probably all in my head, but was wondering if it worked for anyone else and if so, how long it took to notice a difference.
Thanks! :-)
Hang in there.
I am a non-smoker, but my wife tried everything for years to quit and this is the ONLY thing that worked for more than a week.
I tried the gum, but I couidn't keep it lit...
Well there's your problem.
My sis is on it, says it's working good.
Did anyone buy the Chantix from Canada?
Did your wife have any nasty side effects with Chantix? Zyban is the only thing that worked for me, but the side effects were so horrendous that I had to quit taking it. I immediately began smoking again.
I've looked up info on webmd about Chantix and it sounds promising--I'm definitely interested--but I found no mention of side effects. Anything at all that you could tell me would be greatly appreciated.
Go to .5 mg bid tomorrow. I think this is going to work for me.
A FReeper friend who’s on vacation now started it in November and other than one minor relapse (after her husband died), has been smoke-free ever since.
Sounds reasonable.....
I read about Chantix first at FR. Did lots more reading and went to my doctor to get a script. First, got the physical with all the blood work. Two weeks later, results came back great and got my rx.
Tried Chantix and after three weeks gave it up because of the side effects. Four days later came across whyquit.com. I have no idea why or how I ended up at that website, but it made all he difference in the world to me. I quit two days into reading that website.
I think the key was having the needed information to help put quitting into perspective. How long are the cravings? How many per day? What’s the difference b/t a craving and a trigger? How do you break triggers? How long is the nicotine in my body after I quit? What are the side effects of quitting and how do i handle it? What are the effects of alcohol, caffeine, and stress upon nicotine and smoking?
Quit cold turkey. No Chantix, no NRTs, no gum, no mints, no tricks.
Smoked for 32 years! Was at 2 packs per day on the weekdays and 3 packs on weekends when I'd ride my Harley and pop open a few (or more)beers.
Current Quit Stats for me...
5 days, 19 hours, 52 minutes Cold Turkey QUIT!
244 nicotine delivery devices not smoked
saving USD$ 45.75
Life saved: 22 hours, 22 minutes
I still drink coffee and beer, but I do not smoke. Not one single puff.
My new Motto?
NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF
Best wishes!
I really hope this helps someone else break the nicotine addiction.

Please, continue to read that web site. There’s just tons of valuable stuff there. Reading daily helped keep me motivated. I printed his 149 page pdf book (free!) and each morning, when i would normally smoke with coffee and after each meal and just befor ebed, i would read a few pages just to keep me focused on the QUIT, rather than the missing NDD (nicotine delivery device). Tremendous help. promise.
Remember this is without NRT (nicotine replacement therapy), such as patches, tablets, gum etc. To take those is simply feedign the nicotine habit...which IS the substance of the addiciton!
...anyway...
Today’s encouragement...
Its a matter of perspective!
Studies show that cravings last for only 3 minutes each!
A symptom of nicotine withdrawal is time distortion. So, when you have a craving, remember to look at your watch. It will only last three minutes! That makes getting through each one a piece of cake!
Here’s how the # of cravings average for the first week after (cold turkey) quit...
DAY 1...5 craves
DAY 2...6 craves
DAY 3...6.2 craves (nicotine is now all flushed!)
DAY 4...3.5 craves
Day 5...2.5 craves
DAY 6...2.3 craves
DAY 7...4 craves
DAY 8...2 craves
DAY 9...1.8 craves
DAY 10..1.5 craves
So, doing the math...day 3 is the toughest. But, it is the last day of nicotine in the body. And, 6 cravigns, that last 3 minutes means only 18 minutes of difficulty.
Perspective changes everything! be encouraged!
And once stopped, NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!
besh wishes. Keep us informed.

Just started week 5, my smoking is way down. I just had 1 today.
today is 6 months.
over seven thousand cigarettes not smoked.
Over 14 hundred dollars not spent
over four weeks added to my life.
You asked me to keep you informed!
Now read that same site, be encouraged and be blessed!
whyquit.com
read it!
Thanks to Chantix I am 7 days Smoke Free!, this is the first time I have ever tried to quit, smoked for 20 years.
Thanks, you can do this, trust me.The 1mg doses are more noticeable than the .05. Once you quit you will find it’s not the Nicotine your body wants so bad it’s all the other chemicals. Ammonia,Benzine etc, etc.
