It's unusual that a presumably trained dog at a show would bite someone, but Akitas were bred to fight and guard. They are not particularly friendly to strangers and can be aggressive. They are not and were never meant to be cuddly dogs.

LOL at show dogs being "trained".

They are not. In fact, the standard line is that obedience will "break their spirits".

That doesn't mean, as most dogs, that they aren't naturally reasonable animals. But many are not disciplined except knowing by rote how to stand and trot IN the ring.

This Akita was NOT a show dog and as a dog show exhibitor myself I say there is really no excuse for the animals behavior. The person responsible for the dog was very likely negligent and did not know enough about dogs to own an Akita in the first place.
To the fellow who said show dogs aren't trained, You are certainly ignorant in the dog show department. Successful show dogs are highly trained and have excellent temperaments. Our veterinarians and groomers (I am one) love our showdogs because among all of their other wonderful attributes they also know how to calmly stand for an exam and grooming.
Showdogs are very steady and basically the cream of the crop. Not everyone at a dogshow has been in the sport for very long and occasionally a real idiot slips thru with a bad dog, but they don't last long.

That is why we can be pretty sure that Nicole Brown Simpson's dog (a white Akita) knew her attacker.

That it is. In this case, the dog was not entered, because it was a rescue there to see if it had "aggressive" tendencies. It attacked the woman, when she tried to keep it from killing her dog (the Akita originally attacked her dog). She put her foot between the 2, and the Akita darn near tore it off.

This attack is all over the show dog lists. This is NO showdog, it's a vicious dog someone turned into rescue, and some do-gooder was trying to rehabilitate it.
