When I used to live out in the "sticks" my best watchdogs were some large geese. I had three of them, Larry, Moe and Curly.

Never underestimate geese as "watchdogs". You will probably never be hauled into Judge Judy's court by someone complaining that your watch-critters "goosed" them.

Not only were they very alert and protective, it was fun watching people try to deal with them. All the insurance salesmen, encyclopedia salesmen, Jehovahs Witnesses, etc. pretty much how to react to a dog, but geese are a whole different thing.

When they see an intruder, day or night, they run while flapping their wings and although their bite is bad enough, they can whack the stuffings out of you with the knuckles of their wings....and they seem to enjoy it.

The geese "tolerated" our German Shepherd, but they also dominated the poor dog.

The peacock wing is pretty hurtful too when arroused, and their beaks are sharp. Also they scream soumething that sounds like "Rape" all the time when intruders come around.
