"It's an odd occurrence. This breed is not known for the propensity to bite"
Total nonsense. They're quite well-known for it. I've never myself heard of a story 2nd-hand, but I've heard 3rd-hand on places like this. And in the stats all the breed-legislation people on FR put up.

Not an akita, which is larger, but an African "wild dog" attacked my mother (who fortunately escaped before getting hurt).
Her sin was to step out to her car and open the door. The wasn't even hungry. Just a "friendly neighbor" who wanted to start out by showing dominance.
Just noting that with this sort of behavior available with dogs the cloning extremists in Korea now claim to have cloned a wolf.
Just what we need.

Yeah, that phrase jumped out at me also.
Akita, Chow, Shar-pei are all known to snap and be aggressive. They are breeds of fighting dogs and as such need to be owned and handled by responsible owners.
This sounds like a real freak occurrence considering the setting, but an Akita is a big enough dog to make news.

I too have heard of Akita's being aggressive to people and definitely to other dogs.
