Let this serve as an inaugural post on a new thread dedicated to the proposition that literature and the arts are being raped and bludgeoned to death by collectivists who are opposed to all true creativity. It is time the true creative community took matters into their own hands, and swapped ideas and resources at a regular forum. This is as good a place as any to start.

Hi. I'm a tech writer by trade and a playwright (of sorts) and screenwriter by avocation. Could I get on your ping list, please?

I had an idea for writers, a game actually. We take the original 'Common Sense' by Thomas Paine and rewrite it sequentially, paragraph by paragraph, to incorporate common sense into today's debates.

Let's start by correctly spelling "writer!"
To: Eleutheria5
Put me on this list.
I'm an amateur scifi writer with a severe case of writer's block, but some good ideas. I need all the help I can get if I'm going ever get any of it finished, much less published.

Count me the hell in. I write and sin for a living.

Well! It was so easy! I am putting this on favorites. And in case anybody knows how to set up a sort of header, or title page (as they have on the horse thread), here's an image for us.

To: Eleutheria5
And so who will keep the ping list? Or should we just drop in every day?
Second thought or thoughts;
1.)Let's keep the discussion on fiction. If we get into non-fiction writing, people get all wrapped up in political discussions. I have seen it happen on so many 'book' threads.
Besides, the craft of fiction is particular in its problems, such as creating chracters, plots, etc. and we could all help one another with that.
2.) Perhaps, like the 'word for the day' thread, we could propose a single line, and everyone is invited to take off on it. Such as:
He was driving past an abandoned factory when he saw a single red high heeled shoe drop from a broken window...'
Or whatever.
Would appreciate feedback on the above.
Gee I hope this thread gets going.
Eleutheria5 is right in that literature is being subjected to publisher's pressures for political correctness, and it is going to get worse in the election year of '08.
And also that you can hardly have a decent discussion with liberals howling and flaming.

If you create a ping list please put me on it.

Ah, he said, reading the title of the thread. A ping list for fiction writers.
Victoria, the dark haired beauty serving his drink, glanced at the screen. These things always end badly.
Yes they do darling, but we do them anyway.
Her smoky eyes boldly met his. Hmm, another arrogant male, who thinks he can call me darling. Heres my number. Im off at 6.
Put me on the ping list, please. This could be fun.

OK, I'll keep track of the ping-list. If you want on the Righter's ping list, let me know.
I'm at work right now, so I don't have time to create the list at the moment, but I'll do it later this evening.

I might regret this, but could you add me to the ping list if one arises? I know you said fiction writers, and I'm an opinion writer, but I'm not that good at it if that helps me here......
To: Eleutheria5
I just said on your announcement thread that today (really) I was thinking of starting a Free Republic Writer's Club. Now that you have, I will not have to.
Please add me to your ping list.

NEW THREAD SATURDAY MORNING
I guess that's a way to start a new thread...? New day?
Whatever. I willl be here mostly on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings.
E5 is right about Piers Anthony. Terrible writing. I suppose he gets published because he fills a niche --has the right plot and content. I don't know who publishes him. I could look on Amazon.
But as far imitating your favorite writers, I will say again, you can certainly learn from them. Take note of what they do and how they do it.
For instance I learned a lot from Dickens as far as description goes.
He nevetrs describes anything but what it is in movement. It makes description lively.
If he describes someone entering an inn, for instance. There is an old woman and a cat in front of the fire, and a kettle on the fire.
The old woman is always mumbling, the cat is lashing its tail, the kettle is boiling over.
To: Eleutheria5
Please add me to any writing ping list you may put together.
Thank you.

There is no way that writers can be tamed and rendered civilized or even cured. the only solution known to science is to provide the patient with an isolation room, where he can endure the acute stages in private and where food can be poked in to him with a stick.
Also:
Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.
