Everyone has been panning these. It's cheesy for Novell to copycat someone else's commercials, especially such low budget ones as Apple has been producing. I've seen much funnier indie copycats of Apple's ads anyway, like the Pc vs. Mac vs. Linux ones.

Still, I guess there's the old saw about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.

Overall, this probably actually helps Apple more than it helps Novell. It just cements Apple more into consumers' minds as the company to watch. And to buy.

I'm not surprised they're copying Apple's commercials now too, the latest "eye candy" for Linux called Compiz or Beryl, which pretty much came from Novell too seems to be a near exact rip off of OSX and Apple apps Desktop Manager and Virtue Desktop isn't it? I keep hearing how Vista is copying Apple, but Beryl seems to be a direct rip of the ghostly minimizing and horizontal desktop flipping. Imitation is flatery, but Novell apparently has no shame in what they're willing to duplicate from Apple, even the ads on TV.

Agreed!

And ultimately, Novell is just polishing the brass on the Titanic. With their skyrocketing re-up rates for licensing and extremely aggressive collection of monies due to "rogue licenses," Novell isn't making any friends. I never liked eDir to begin with, but their attitude, esp. with Zen and SSO, is starting to wear thin.

At least they picked a brunette.

I haven't heard any rumblings from Apple(at least so far) so I'm sure they came to the same conclusion.

Apple doesn't seem nearly as freaked out about linux as as Microsoft does. But then again, apple has a zombie following. MS doesn't.
