June 1957 – Residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma are enjoying their city’s anniversary, called “Tulsarama!” Most every city around the country enjoys parties; it’s a big tradition throughout the United States.

Tulsa representatives decided they needed something unique and different in order to compete with Oklahoma City. They decided to entomb an automobile in a time capsule, using a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere as the car of choice.

the Chrysler push button automatic transmission...

Trying to test my memory, I believe the Chrysler products all had them until 1964 or 1965. Seems like I recall a '64 Valiant still had the push button. They were gone, just like the fins, by 1967. I used to drive a '67 Belvedere with a 318 4 barrel, no push buttons.

I've never done anything like that and I'd likely not be the most reliable "dormanter". Maybe I'll remember when it comes up again at Allpar.

I can't even drive home from the grocery store without digging all the prizes out of the cereal boxes.

Some sound advice: If you find a prize in a box of Triscuits, it's probably not a prize.

But I digress. I still pine for the bicycle license plates they'd include in a box of Honeycomb.

'68 Corvette 427 (clocked at 142 on the interstate with 10 day plates...but thats another story!)
'58 Porsche...( yup...traded the corvette for it)

One of my uncles, an aircraft mechanic by trade, was in love with Studebakers. He would buy a heap, fix it up and trade it for a better model. He finally ended up with his baby, a Golden Hawk, like this one:

Don't know which year, but I had a 65 SS with a 327 and an automatic. Guess a floor shift on a full sized car wouldn't appear odd because they were all that until the late 30s and most stick shift pick-ups are still that way.

By the way, I did once own a 64 Plymouth Sport Fury with a 404 in it. And my last V-8 Chev was a 74 that had a 454 cubic inch engine. I'm too old for V-8s now. I would get into trouble with one. Only have V-6s now, but do have stick shift as a means of maintaining manual dexterity.

With 0 to 60 times of six to seven seconds, you don't lose much speedwise with some of these modern sixes.
