Dame Vera Lynn, who entertained Britain's armed forces during the Second World War, is celebrating her 90th birthday at London's Imperial War Museum on Tuesday.

Current 'forces sweetheart' Katherine Jenkins will perform Lynn's war-time hits "We'll Meet Again" and "The White Cliffs of Dover" during birthday celebrations that will be attended by Winston Churchill's granddaughter Lady Soames, author Jilly Cooper, Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes and dozens of Second World War veterans.

Dame Vera was chosen as the 'forces sweetheart' by readers of the Daily Express in 1939, and she travelled thousands of miles, often at personal risk, to entertain the weary troops.

Let's say goodbye with a smile, dear,
Just for a while, dear, we must part.
Don't let the parting upset you,
I'll not forget you, sweetheart.
We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when,
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day.
Keep smiling through, just like you always do,
'Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away.

So will you please say hello to the folks that I know,
Tell them I won't be long.
They'll be happy to know that as you saw me go,
I was singing this song.

After the rain comes the rainbow,
You'll see the rain go, never fear,
We two can wait for tomorrow,
Goodbye to sorrow, my dear.

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Remember how she said that we would meet again
Some sunny day

Vera, Vera, what has become of you?
Does anybody else here feel the way I do?
