Did Bob Guccione direct this silly, oversexed historically inaccurate mini series on HBO which is mercifully coming to an end?
It's The Sopranos or The Shield in togas. I don't tune in for history, but for entertainment - and it's come through week after week for me.
I could watch Pullo chop heads off all day. He kicks ass.
My complaints - the actor playing Brutus was a horrible actor and a totally wuss. And the kid playing Octavian was much much much better actor than the new guy playing Octavian.
I am rereading Anthony and Cleopatra and I would say that William S. got the essence of their story - minus the eyeliner.
Tobey Menzies, who plays Brutus, also appeared in Casino Royale as an M15 operative. He was very weak as Brutus. And where was Portia? You would never know watching this that Brutus had a wife - you would think he was married to his mother.
and the father of Octavia's baby is : ZZA ZZA GABOR'S HUSBAND! (also rumored to be the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby).
And where was Portia?
As historically inaccurate as the series is, I dont think theyd let them have cars, no matter how expensive!
What Would Lucius Vorenus Do?
For whatever reason, they made Brutus a nerdy intellectual and Antony an earthy libertine.
For whatever reason, they made Brutus a nerdy intellectual and Antony an earthy libertine.
But Pullo.... he's my favorite. The Sensitive Brute!
I was disappointed by the casting of the new Octavian too.
You espect historical accuracy from a drama on HBO? I expect a little 'whip' action on HBO.
Where their characters the opposite of what is being portraid in Rome?
"Non amo te - non possum dicere quare."
Tum podem extulit horridulum!
One tip, don't watch fictionalized dramas for your history research.
The show is very appealing to me. They clearly took great pains to display roman villas and some low rent neighborhoods accurately.
The cast is terrific.
I don't remember any roman movie which portrayed the daily lives of roman soldiers and then as civilians as well as this does
I suggest if, you can't enjoy this fiction, you may want to read another history book.
I think I Claudius is one of the best things I have ever seen, but it does not distract me from enjoying Rome. I hope it goes on for years.
Good Lord, perhaps we should all start threads about every single show we hate. Wouldn't that be fun???!!!!!
I agree. He and Vorenus are fantastic.
It is coming to an end. It is Dynasty with togas. Anthony's wife/lover was FULVIA, not Attia. Attia was already dead by the time he carried on with Cleopatra. And he was already Cleo's lover by the time he married Octavia. One anacronism after another.
Totus res publica est.
He would kick patrician ass!
Oh I have no idea...... just thought those interesting characterizations.....
But I think this season is it...... A shame really, they could go all the way to Marcus Aurelius....
