This is going to get interesting. This guy went after everybody during the Jon Benet tragedy......
As someone here mentioned, I hope Mark Fuhrman and Baden will do a book on this case, including in it the relationship between Perper and Wecht.
Anna Nicole Smith - Anatomy of a Feeding FrenzyPEJ Special Index Report
April 4, 2007
Shortly after 2 p.m. on February 8, news outlets began reporting that playmate/heiress Anna Nicole Smith had been found unconscious at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood Florida. What followed for the next 23 days struck many observers as a media feeding frenzy that turned a tabloid tangle into one of the nations biggest news events.
When MSNBCs Chris Matthews on February 19 asked Iraq veteran Paul Rieckhoff whether the debate about Iraq was harming troop morale, Reickhoff told him that instead, morale is impacted by the fact that America is paying attention to .Anna Nicole Smith...
How big was the Anna Nicole Smith story? How pervasive a media phenomenon was it? Can any lessons be learned about the media from the episode?
This PEJ Index Special Report of the 23 days of the Anna Nicole storyfrom her death on February 8* to her burial on March 2reveals that it was indeed a major story in the national press, though not equally so across outlets. Only two other stories during that timethe debate over Iraq and the 2008 Presidential racegenerated more attention in than Smiths demiseand those only barely.
Yet the sense that the Smith soap operaand the clips of her vamping in scanty attirewas a wall-to-wall event from which there was no escape in the media is something of a misimpression.
The Smith saga did not attract major coverage from all the media sectors studied, which includes 48 different outlets across five media sectors. (Please see the methodology for a complete list.) Instead, it was driven largely by relentless attention from twoboth television-based. One was network morning news. The other, even bigger, was cable TV news, where this story accounted for nearly a quarter of all the airtime.
Whats more, not all channels devoted equal time to the story. In network morning shows, the story was covered more heavily by CBS and NBC.
And on cable, the Fox News Channel fixated most on the story, followed by MSNBC.
These findings add to the evidence of cables fixation on one big event. But they also go beyond that. The fact that for the most part, the newspapers, web sites, nightly network newscasts, and radio news outlets treated Smiths death as a blip on the radar screen speaks to cables ability to magnify an event until it feels like the only story on the entire media agenda.
In reality, the media landscape is diverse with different news priorities. What consumers learn aboutand what they do not learn aboutcan very dramatically depending on where they go for news.

Hi... Diane Diamond on Nancy Grace...
Without clicking on the link, let me guess - I thought I heard the most evil lawyerword of all (outdoing HKS except for the dead people) emanating from my TV set in another room when I was in the kitchen .... linwoody.
I’m sorry I invoked he-who-shall-not-be-named in one of my early posts. Now it’s going to be come a reality. Please don’t let him be on any of the good guys’ sides.
*Break it ... to me ... gently. Let me down the eeezzee way ...*
All these expensive attorneys are mesmerized by the big money that might be out there.
Thanks will watch.
Wow! Stern is sure worried about something...
John O’Quinn on Nancy Grace...
If I heard this correctly just now on NGrace, Jean Casares said she spoke to the judge about Jack Harding not being a witness in the inquest. The judge then said he never heard of Jack Harding...
Can you believe that Judge has never heard of Harding?
Now Brooks on NG is saying the “inquest rules may take years to change.
My understanding is that the “inquest” is like our Grand Juries.
Nobody gets to question Grand Juries here in the states. The fact that Stern is trying to cahange laws to suit himself is disgusting.
I hope the Bahamians throw him out on his booty.
SHOCKING that the judge never heard of Jack Harding!!!!! Just goes to show that so many of the people in charge of this case everywhere are UNINFORMED and CLULESS...
I also saw Howie also hold up the back of Anna’s dress.
And like LLW, they have the same M.O. Appear on any and all TV shows, talk to any and all tabloids, leak anything and everything you can to smear the perceived enemy ... never stop grandstanding, calling press conferences, giving interviews about how you’re not going to give any interviews ... then ask for a dismissal or change of venue or special privileges in voir dire because of the “extensive publicity” the case and/or the suspect has gotten.
It truly should be unethical for an officer of the court to ask for special consideration of the law for a circumstance that they, themselves, instigated, caused and executed.
Then, when things get too hot, they hire PR counsel, which they should have done in the first place instead of using an atty to do that job.
Then, of course, fire the PR counsel quite publicly, after smearing them with low-blow tactics and dirt for weeks or months, for being unable to pull the stinking scumbag out of the flipping hole he and the atty have dug for themselves.
Bah!
Virgie, Texas, Larry, Tabloids Beware; Feared Atlanta Libel Lawyer L. Lin Wood May Join Howard K. Stern Legal Team
Sources tell me Howard K. Stern is recruiting one of the countrys most feared libel lawyers, L. Lin Wood of Atlanta, to take on a horde of attackers who continue to call him a killer in print and on talk shows, despite an autopsy report and exhaustive police investigation clearing him of any criminal charges in the death of Anna Nicole Smith.
Championing vilified public figures is his game and Lin Wood is his name; tall, smooth and handsome, he cuts a debonaire figure on Larry King and other shows, and makes Virgie Arthurs billionaire Texas attorney John OQuinn, look like a rambling country bumpkin. OQuinn, who continues to blast Stern as a murderer, will likely be among those who would fall in Woods crosshairs if he takes the case.
Woods other clients have included John and Patsy Ramsey; he pressed defamation claims on their behalf against St. Martins Press, Time, Inc., The Fox News Channel, American Media, Inc., Star, Globe, Court TV and The New York Post regarding suspicions raised about their alleged involvement in the 1996 murder of daughter JonBenet Ramsey in Boulder, Colorado.
He also won settlements for former Atlanta Olympic Park security guard Richard Jewell, who was named as an FBI suspect in the 1996 Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta, five years before Eric Rudolph was caught and convicted of murder in the bombing.
When Wood speaks, media moguls, or at least their corporate lawyers and editors tend to listen, and hes elicited fairer tones in print and in the airwaves for clients just by coming on board; Stern would be lucky indeed if Wood takes the case since his legal team has been outblasted and out-shouted on the airwaves, as Howard keeps taking it on the chin.
Objecting to the DNA release didnt help his image, but thats certainly not criminal. What his lawyers dont understand is why his side of the story isnt getting out, including the fact Anna did not want Larry Birkhead to have any contact with the baby, and chose a country where a birth certificate DadStern has equal or more standing than a biodad the Mom doesnt want anything to do with and kicked to the curb.
His lawyers hope that will change if Wood comes on board, which is highly likely, sources tell me. Hes certainly no stranger to big names under suspicion, and pressed defamation claims for ex congressman Gary Condit against Vanity Fair writer Dominick Dunn, and against the National Enquirer, Globe, Star and American Media., Inc., in Florida, relating to the May 2001 murder of Chandra Levy in Washington, D.C. All those tabloids have been relentless in pursuing Stern as everything from enabler to killer, and the decibels have hardly died down since the autopsy report.
Sources tell me Wood looked at the case after getting calls from Stern attorney Krista Barth and found it compelling, with a rich landscape for possible defamation lawsuitsfrom Virgie lawyer John OQuinn, who continues to call Stern a murderer on talk shows, to Ford Shelly who claims Anna asked him to take her computer, hard drive and videos from the house if anything happened to her.
When Stern filed burglary charges in the Bahamas, Shelly turned them in to the Horry County Sheriffs Department on advice of his criminal lawyer, for safekeeping, but not before he apparently copied the videos and released them to assorted media outlets. Its unclear if he got paid.
Afterwards, the videos of Anna, taken by Stern, wound up on FOX News, her face painted and apparently drugged out. Stern attorney Krista Barth tells me Shelly is a vile human being, a complete fabricator because another video shows Anna cursing him and ordering him out of her house, and that shed taken an injunction out against him and his father in law, G. Ben Thompson, who were trying to evict them from Horizons.
It defies logic that she would have trusted Shelly with anything, much less her things, she tells me. What I want to know is why he stole the paintings she did for Dannielynns nursery, and why he hasnt returned those. He is vile and disgusting.
According to a local police report, Shelly told a business partner in a dispute, that you can kill someone and nobody would know unless you tell someone. Thats in a January 2007 Myrtle Beach Police report filed by a woman realtor who claims he made 40 harrassing phone calls to her and threatened her in a land deal.
If Wood takes the case, and hes expected to decide by the end of the week, he would likely go after the purloined videos as property of the estate, charging not only theft, and misappropriation of intellectual property belonging to Annas daughter, but invasion of privacy.
