Do your daughters see how he comes off as gay? Or is that a totally foreign idea to them? Do they think it's at all odd that his hair is styled like it is? How do people other than your girls view him at school?

My daughter explained to me her peers impression of Sanjaya. He is considered as one who hangs with the drama crowd and belonging to what many call "Prepies." He is not gay and has real girlfriends. His long hair style is not an issue. The school has a huge range of hair styles. Some of them would make your eyes flip. However, the wide range of behavior and styles are all a part of the normal landscape. This is the world of our kids. They appreciate those who make life interesting and do their own thing. For them, no one should be judged by how they look. They look to those like Sanjaya as heroes who are doing things to make people happy. Sanjaya at 17 years old certainly shows lots of courage to give his peers something to look up to.
