American Idol Doesn't Work Anymore
opinion | 03/08/2007 | brianbaldwin

They are trying to tell us America voted. I don’t believe it. And here’s what I mean – sure, some Americans voted - more than once. And some who aren’t even Americans voted, too. And maybe some automated their vote, put it in the “system”, and voted many times.

They call it “American” Idol. “America” voted.

But it was pretty much anybody with a cell phone voted, if they wanted. I mean, Osama bin Laden could have voted.

America voted?

And we have block voting. Votes that have nothing to do with one’s opinion about singing ability, and more to do with identity, and agendas.

What am I talking about, you ask?

Well, take tonight for example. That freaky guy with the hair that better than the gals, named Sanjaya. He beats out Sundance.

How is it possible?

Simple. Block votes. Everything now seems to be driven by identity, and by agendas which surround those identities.

So we had block votes coming in from the gays and homosexuals who voted for Sanjaya and got all excited when he did his hula dance bit. And half of India voted.

Nothing to do with a singing contest, nothing to do with who can sing the best. It was about other things.

And please, don’t accuse me of “gay bashing”, because it’s simply about telling it like it is - and that is why American Idol doesn’t work anymore.

Some American picks up a cell phone, and punches in the number for the best singer. Fair and square, right?

Or can one hijack the ring tone to American Idol? Not too hard to do, really. And, it’s real easy not to be fair and square.

Block votes.

And while I was watching the “elimination”, my mind drifted a little off subject, and I asked myself: “Did Republican Bush sign the Democratic Party sponsored Amnesty bill, yet?” . . .

Which phone number do I dial to punch in the number regarding my vote on the Amnesty bill?

Does America get to vote on that?

American Idol - such a big hit, one couldn’t even imagine the day when it’s finally a “has been”. But then one day, the crowd turns a curious circus into a bad circus act.

What were the last words the lady sang at the previous “elimination” - she was eliminated, and she danced and sang her song again to say goodbye, and the last improvised words of her song were something like “She shouldn’t have danced”? And America doesn’t like Jazz?

You know what. American Idol sucks. It’s become just like everything else. It started off all about entertainment. To work, it had to start off with a system. And then, the system became a success. It was noticed.

And everyone votes.

In fact, the whole damn world votes. Everyone votes in Chicago. More than once. Even the dead vote. Even the illegals aliens voted.

Sort of like what’s happening - to America and our elections, for example.

In fact, since almost half of Mexico will soon be voting in our elections, why not just let the entire world vote in our elections, too?

Cells phones.

That’s the “answer”. Everyone votes by cell phone.

Even in China, they may still have a lot of folks with dirt floors but they all got a cell phone. Why not let all of China vote in our elections, too?

And all of Arabia!

And all of Central and South America! And all of the North, South, East, West Free Trade Alliances!

By golly, tell Bush right now! Cell phones! But . . . only if EVERYONE gets to vote! Right, Bush? THEN Bush gets his Amnesty bill even faster! You call it “America voted”. But actually, it’s “Anyone can, and did”. Not “America”, but “Anyone”. Anywhere. And, any number of times. Think global. Global economy. Global “America votes”. Global cell phones.

You know, a thought just occurred to me.

When “American” Idol takes all them votes - them votes by cell phones for example - can ANYONE really call?

I mean, like, if I’m in Pakistan for example. In some cave in the North West Frontier Province. In Pakistan. With an AK-47 in my hand. And a Quran on my head.

Can I call up on the cell phone, or perhaps satellite phone, and . . . . . . I’m wearing pajamas and a turban, . . . and I got a beard and a bad kidney, and… . . . can I vote?

Just wondering.

Like . . . Imagine - some lady gets past the American Idol judges. And, then she shows up when “America votes”. And, she shows up in a burqa. And she sings “Allah AAAAAAHK-Barrrr!” (and a ringy-dingy goes the cymbals on her fingers), “Aaaaaa …. LLLLAHHHHHHH!” (and a ringy-dingy goes the cymbals on her toes), “OOOOOO – SAAAAAAAAA – MAAAAAAA!”

“OOOOH, Sa Ma, How I Love You!”

And “America votes”. By cell phone.

And like, she beats the lady who can dance and who sings Jazz.

Could it happen? Could the Islamic Jihad pull it off?

Maybe not down to the last one standing. But to the top ten, maybe?

And so now, American Idol is the “most popular show in the entire world”. And, it’s a global thing, and now, it’s about charity for Africa, we are the world, and throw in Katrina so you can say it’s American too, and you know, imagine there’s no heaven.

America voted. And it sucks. Turn it off.

Sanjaya got the teenage girl vote. That's an easy one. On the girl's side, they got one right and one wrong. But really no one voted out this week had any serious chance at the title.

You are correct. I've only seen two nights of it, in both cases they were having the "elimination" process.

It seemed to me that on both events I watched, even the judges didn't get the results.

But if you think about it, if you consider cell phone voting, and you consider agenda driven "herds" who really are voting more about identity than talent - then you get it.

Then you understand how this can happen.

I don't know if Sanjaya is gay or not, ok, (here's where I insert not that there is anything wrong with that) but I am sure the Indian population of America voted for him and probably voted and voted many times. Not much you can do about it until the number of contestants gets smaller then it would be more difficult. It would be one thing if he was good, but he sucks!

Randy: Yo Dawg, I don't know about your post man, it just wasn't your best, you know? I was looking for that bit that would make me say "yo" but it wasn't there, I just am not feeling it tonight in your vanity. There is just no yo in it for me.

Paula: Brian, you certainly gave it a good shot, tried to make it your own, but you know, I feel there are better topics for you to be working on. Sorry dear.

Simon: Why are you posting vanity posts? I felt it was really rather inconsequential.

Anyway, who should really CARE about American Idol. That's the other thing that is bugging me, now that I have watched it. I suppose at one time, it was a good show. But having watched it twice, I can't imagine most folks think it's that great, anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the judges goes public and says it like it is - that it really doesn't work anymore, that something is wrong.

By the way - what is "Rudy's" stand on illegal aliens, and our open border(s)? I mean, I keep hearing some talk about "Rudy's" stand on gun control, abortion, and gay rights. That there are the three things that "conservatives" might have a problem with . . .

. . . but then, I don't hear the same "commentators" asking what is probably going to be one of the two TOP issues in 2008 - illegal aliens (et all including the Bush-Ted Kennedy Amnesty bill). The War on Terror, and this issue in regards to our borders, are important issues. But for some reason, when "Rudy's" liberalism is brought up as a discussion by some "conservative talk show hosts", there is like this "story line" about "gun control, abortion, gay rights", and always followed up by how "Rudy" is, however, "strong on the issue" of WOT/etc.

Somehow, they forget to ask/discuss his stand regarding illegal aliens. Only a few will ask.

And why is that?

For me, sure I have a conservative stand on gun control, abortion, gay rights. But for me, that is NOT what is going to tip my vote in 2008.

Pretty much any of the Republican candidates will show some "strong" stand regarding WOT, which of course is a number one issue.

But there is that "other issue" - illegal immigration - which is on my mind, and on the mind of many of the "base".

If the Republican candidate supports the Bush-Kennedy Amnesty, then that Republican will NEVER get my vote.

I am on the "right", conservative, position in regards to gun control, abortion, gay rights - so I don't agree with "Rudy" regarding his position on these.

But his position on these issues, it isn't really the end of the world for me.

If Rudy came out and said, "I oppose the type of Guest Workers Program proposed by President Bush", and something like "I support a REAL fence", "Illegal aliens cost us more than they supposedly save us . . " etc...

. . . THEN I would have supported him, even if I don't agree with him on some other issues because I trust him in regards to WOT.

But, it seems to me his on the Bush side of this issue.

The wrong side.

And Mitt seems to be on the right side.

Even if Mitt has changed his mind in the past.

Of course, that can change.

I want this issue to be in the debate.

That is why I welcome Congressman Tom Tancredo, Newt Gingrich and others into the debate, especially any participation they may have in the Republican debates for 2008.

RIGHT.. and they will vote democrat too.
The republican disconnect is massive..
2008 will be unique.. Republicans will not know what hit them..

News flash! My two girls know Sanjaya from school. They say he is a great guy to talk to. He is in no way gay. My one daughter was involved the the same play production he was in: You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. He is very talented and a decent young man. Someone you would be proud of if he were your kid.

You were doing well up till your fourth glass of wine there ;)

I told my wife in the beginning that Sanjaya couldn't sing worth a s*** and that they put him thru because of his, um, ethnicity. Obviously they were going after a new demographic.

He still can't sing and he's still there.

My daughters know Sanjaya and were furious when I asked if he was gay. He is one of their heros and the entire school is rooting for him.

No. Sanjaya is not gay.
