ok, it sounds like you had a hard disk problem, and chkdsk fixed it, but had to delete a necessary DLL file.

Bad, but unavoidable. The disk had errors on it so it had to fix them.

Now you probably just need to replace the deleted files. The easiest way is to put in your Windows installation disk, and select REPAIR A CURRENT INSTALLATION

To prevent this in the future do a disk check and defrag every month or two.

I put the reinstallation disk and these are my options:

1) Install Windows XP 2) Learn more about set-up process 3) Perform additional tasks 4) Check system compatability

Where do I find Repair a Current Installation?
