WORD FOR THE DAY, TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 2007, MOCKERY
Merriam-Webster | 03/06/07 | Slip 18

Posted on 03/06/2007 4:28:52 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

MOCKERY

Pronunciation: \ˈmä-k(ə-)rē, ˈmȯ-\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -er·ies
Date: 15th century

1: insulting or contemptuous action or speech: derision
2: a subject of laughter, derision, or sport
3 a: a counterfeit appearance; imitation b: an insincere, contemptible, or impertinent imitation (makes a mockery of justice)
4:something ridiculously or impudently unsuitable

Do I hear Hillary once? Do I hear Hillary twice? Do I hear Hillary a third time? What a mockery of the English language.

It's true, but the mayor and the governors of some states like Massachusetts do not have the broad discretion in their judge choices that the POTUS has...

Consider what he had to work with. There probably ain't very many qualified Republican lawyers in NYC. I'm no Rudy defender by a long shot, but this doesn't surprise me much.

I certainly won't hold my breath waiting for rudy to pick conservative judges who will be aligned with my personal faith and values......since rudy himself does not live by those values....why would he pick judges who would please me?

That's not the point. If he is president hs can select from jurists around the entire country to fill positions. He isn't stuck to selecting qualified and willing New Yorkers.

-so WHY would he pick a conservative judge? IS he a conservative, or does he just want our votes?

I supported rudy against hillary........every day I see her parading around as my senator I remember how rudy bailed when things got tough and I ended up with her. the campaign WILL get tough at a national level......I have my doubts about how he will be under all that pressure......including IF he is elected and he has a SCOTUS pick.

Finally-home from work at a decent hour-what a madhouse it has been-I'll never, ever do work for this customer again-

Hillary makes a mockery
Of every southern state
When she mimics the accent
And the gestures people make

She thinks she's fooling people
Into thinking she's the same-
Born in a southern town
And with a southern name

But we know who she really is-
An eletist who got some cash
From being a lawyer and marrying
Some Arkansas trailer trash
