She does not have the talent to be a major player in American Idol. The song was dedicated to a parent or grandparent. When listening to the lyrics, there is not much of a political theme in it. However the song has become politicalized because of who sang it and why.

The Dixie Chicks are the ones who politicized it. The song means exactly what people think it does.
