Nopers, I was digging a huge hole that I was going to make a rather accurate but kid scaled bunker out of.
(Hey, I was 8 years old at the time, and way too curious for my own good.)

LOL!
My son made a hole for a bunker when we lived in the Bay Area, and about three feet down, he found a cannon ball. I still have it. I use it for a door stop.

I found a chunk of rock that had fossil shells in it.
Still have it, but not as a doorstop.

Tulip has to drive that to carry all the taxes she has to collect.

I think I'd rather have the cannonball.

When I was a kid, we were always finding fossil shells in the foothills. Leftovers from Lake Bonneville. I wish I still had one or two, but they were so plentiful, we never kept them long.

Went hiking near here, and at a red sandstone outcropping found fossil shells that still were calcium, not just mere impressions in rock.
Kept my mouth shut as to where I found them too.
The place is full of the thigs, but you have to get to the rather narrow sandbar by the outcropping in the middle of a creek.

At first glance, it looks like a shot put, but if you look at it closely, you can see the flat spots where it had been hit each time it was used. And it's all scratched and gouged. I like it!
I was afraid I would lose it in the move from AZ, so I put it in the truck, under the seat. It's wedged in pretty good, but if I stop fast, it will roll forward. *THUNK!* Then when I start forward, it will roll back. *THONK!*

Oh that's right---she has to carry the trees to the paper mill in that thing....
But who's cutting down the trees?

The fossils we found were solid. Kind of oval shaped, but had the shell markings on both sides, like the logo for Shell gas. Once in a while, we would only find half, but not too often. Most of the time, we had the whole thing. I was surprised at how heavy they were.
It was amazing how popular they were for show-and-tell...

{{{{{Dog}}}}}
My grandson is in a Stryker Brigade, but has no orders yet. But my daughter's youngest step-son just left with his dog for Iraq. They only let the dogs deploy for six months, but still, I worry, as his wife is newly pregnant.
