Hot water came in teapots, not out of the tap.

Bathing, consequently, was quite rare. Many thought it unhealthy.

As one who has bathed in a laundry tub, with water heated on a woodstove, I can say ... we learned to adapt.

I've washed in a dishpan, with water heated on a propane stove :-). I've also washed in a dishpan with water that was just above freezing. I was famous for taking baths during primitive camping.

I ironed on campouts, too ... freaked people out!

My mother had an iron that ran on... some fuel. Very handy in the years she was living "off the grid."

I heated mine on a rock next to the fire. Bought it at an antique store.

One job some years ago, I took "spongebaths" in the company's one lavatory every day after arriving at work on my bicycle (12 miles, with some significant uphill stretches).

My current employer has three showers, and I'm only some 8 miles away -- but it's all on narrow and/or high-speed rural roads that are way too dangerous for bicycles. ((:-(

I think I've seen those. A bit heavy, no? What did you use for an ironing board?

And the big question: Why?? *\;-)

Very heavy. Ironed on a plywood box that we carried stuff in. And I wanted to look tidy!

I have outgrown all this now :-).

Good! *\;-)

Campouts... I grew up with camping vacations (an inexpensive way to travel).

After we got married, I taught my wife about camping -- first in "full-support" campgrounds such as state and national parks and even KOA, and finally "no support" dry camps off in the woods somewhere, camping a few days back of nowhere with the few gallons of water we brought in with us.

She even learned the joy of winter-camping, tent-camping in the snow on a grand tour of the West that included Yosemite (Tioga Pass) and Yellowstone, both in the snow.

The "no support" camps have become difficult ever since The Klintoon closed (put locked gates on) a whole lot of forestry roads. And we haven't been tent-camping for several years for other reasons. But this summer our diocese is conducting its first-ever (and I hope not the last!) diocesan camp-out at a national park, and I am really looking forward to it!

You should have a great time camping with your church folks. My husband and daughters are going to our Diocesan Scout Campout next weekend. The older boys will be out with the Boy Scout troop, and I'll be home with the babies.

Camping with babies is way down on my list of fun things. Maybe when we get everybody out of diapers, I'll do something other than staying home with the laundry!

Snowing with flowers in bloom gives a darkly comforting air. You know it's winter's last gasp.

Does anyone know if he has just had his posting privileges taken? Or has he actually been banned?

I haven't caught up on the posts since I've been gone a few days so I don't know if this issue has been resolved yet. But I had heard that if you are suspended, it shows a time frame of the suspension when you try to post.

My original purpose for that poem was to strike a similarity between Winter's blasts coming and going, and the feel of standing at the seashore, with the surf coming up and rolling away.

I decided instead to go with a different rhyme scheme and tighten it up.

It's a lovely picture.

'Morning.

I'm having a tough time, too. I watched the aftermath of A Gathering Of Eagles on C-SPAN, and the MSM does NOT want to hear about Patriotism!

Lily-livered, pea-brained, mindless sheeple!

Went and got my week's cup of coffee, since I didn't have one yesterday. Somebody forgot to turn the hotplate on; it was tepid. We'll see if it helps anyway... I have lots to do...

Later.

My connection is too slow for that. But a nearby FReeper has downloaded it and burned a DVD. He's offered a copy so I can duplicate and distribute it.

I'll take a copy, if you don't mind.....tell me how much $ for it...

Morning, all. Yawn -- did not sleep well... but have a full day of work ahead regardless. *\:-(

Worked Saturday 9 hours, then went home to trim tree....

Worked Sunday 5 hours, then went home to cut up and dispose of tree trimmings....

10-12 hour days as far as the eye can see....

Would rather be busy than slow, though. };o)

Cocoa works for me. Though I still think there is no better aroma in the world than fresh-perked coffee...I just don't drink it any more. :o]
