One advantage of being home alone this weekend is I get to catch up on a few projects. Finally got all the photos downloaded off the digital cameras, and even got to work on a few.
Here's a pleasant little reminder of December's windstorm just a short ways down the road. I've been watching it and the lighting has never been quite right; I had to enhance this photo quite a bit just to get this. (I also need to re-try from a different angle.)

Wow!
Those are not "small" trees, are they?

No they aren't. Gotta figure out how to get some sense of scale into that photo too, without filling the frame with the road.

Do you get to "harvest" the down trees?

Spring fever hit me this morning and I cleaned house. Now I'm sorry I listened to the siren song!
How are you doing? It's good to see you!

I did some cleaning last week. Don't know if it was late spring cleaning from last year or early for this year!

LOL!
I'm never in one place long enough to do "spring" cleaning. By the time I get ready to do it, it ends up being "move-out" cleaning! (I'm getting too old for this stuff!)

Well, they belong to whoever owns the property they're on, but there have been some folks out "harvesting" (somebody took a couple half-downed trees from the woods on the church property one Sunday evening -- but that just relieved us of the problem).
There's a bit of a glut of wood right now, as indicated by this pile. It's across the road from the lowest corner of our property. Two or three weekends ago a neighbor and his son went down and sawed up a tree that was down alongside the road. Not sure who owns the property, but that pile of wood remains there untouched.
Our woodpile got rather larger with half the remains of a giant Doug Fir that fell from our front yard. And I've got more.
It's really hard to get a decent perspective on this tree (I took the picture just minutes ago). The rootball is fairly near the upper end of our woods, below the back yard. It was at least 150' tall. The top of the trunk remaining is close to the road below. But it seems I will finally have to buy a chainsaw and cut this, and some other downed or damaged trees up.

I've seen some of those old growth trees in PS. We had some in our back yard, but never had enough rain at one time to uproot them.
Yep...looks like a chainsaw massacre coming up!

I think you'll need a chainsaw with at least a three foot blade.
Maybe you and your neighbors (or church members) could invest in a sawmill.

I've seen some of those old growth trees in PS. We had some in our back yard, but never had enough rain at one time to uproot them. These aren't old growth. I'm told there was a forest fire here about 1940 that took everything out. But you know what kind of big trees we have here -- the canopies are 150' to 200' up. It was the windstorms that took these out.

200 foot tall trees in only 60 years?
Wow. Obviously plenty of rainfall.

I'll have to measure things. Hope it won't require something that big -- but if it does, it does.
