Ides:
A day in the Roman calendar, that marked the approximate middle of the month, i.e., the fifteenth day in the months of March, May, July, and October, and the thirteenth day in the other eight months. The word ides comes from Latin, meaning "half division" (of a month).
* Specifically, this may refer to the Ides of March, the date of Julius Caesar's assassination

I told her that in the Roman calendar, March had 30 days. She hasn't figured out how to dispute that, yet.

Yep, and thanks to Wikipedia, I have fulfilled my "learn something new everyday" mandate for the day. I probably should have already known that, but hey, I am a victim of public education.

Yes we are! It's 87 here in Hooterville, and probably hotter at McCarran, but the weather prognosticators say it will "cool off" to the mid-seventies by this time next week.
Too late...it's Spring. The trees are all leafed out!

Explain to your daughter that March can easily have a middle day, and a month like June can easily be divided exactly in half.
Isaac Asimov once suggested that we should do away with months altogether, replacing them with seasons of ninety-one days each.
That gives 364 days, one short of the normal total. Doctor Asimov suggested we set that day apart as a World Holiday, and then start the next year out on the same day of the week again. (Sunday, of course! It's New Year's Day!)
Calendars would be obsoleted by this system, but who cares?

So according to Asimov, we would have Spring 73rd and Winter 69th....
I could go for that....If only to shake things up a bit.
Of course when the ACLU figures out that our current year system is a Christian calendar, I'm sure we will have to change anyway. Of course, the are already changing BC (Before Christ) to BCE (Before Common Era).

I am a victim of public education. Actually, upon reflection you've already established that you have risen above that impediment. You didn't type, "I went 2 publik skool"
