Does it bother, puzzle, or amaze anyone else that the A.N. Smith thread has over 15k responses?

Is it just me, or do others find it remarkable and maybe just a bit troubling that a thread on Anna Nicol Smith would gather over 15,000 posts?

I just don't "get" it.

Glad you made this post. I don't understand this part of human nature and don't care to.

No.

The story doesn't interest me, but who the heck cares if it does interest others?

People follow all kinds of stories here, ace. It doesn't make you superior in any way if you aren't interested in that one.

that truly perplexes me, too. there are myriad threads on FR that i never click on, because i have no interest in them. i don't wonder why others are interested, i am not even aware of how high the post count is on those threads. that anyone even gives a passing thought to why others are interested in anything in particular, perplexes me.

It would bother me if none of those posters had questioned the syntax: "Anna Nicole Smith has died according to ABC News."

She didn't "die according to ABC News." It's not like ABC News has established ground rules for dying. Rather, "according to ABC News, she has died."

But no, it's typical of life in a mass media society. Look at the Simpson murders in the 1990s.

Just be grateful there's not a Britney Spears thread.

You're right Arizona Carolyn, at this point it's like a whodunit. I tuned in to the trial because I wanted to see what that creep, Howard, had to say and to see whether the tape of Anna obviously being high on drugs with Howard commenting in the background that the tape would make a lot of money, would be shown in court.

I feel sorry for that baby, I hope the matter as to who her father is will be settled sooner than later.

Ana Nicole serves as yet another example that fame and fortune won't bring you happiness. That girl was royally screwed up and it's too bad her son paid the ultimate price for the wrong choices she made.

And just because there are people following the trial doesn't mean they can't keep up with other news.

Does this mean that there is a slowdown now on the Natalie Holloway postings? Who will solve that case if everyone has moved on to ANS? What could possibly be more important than NH or ANS? Shirley you jest. ;)

You are right. Right now the election harping is irritating to read and I am keeping track of the war and other things in the world... but it is interesting putting all the dots together and it's maddening to hear some of the TV pundits because we are all putting the timelines and facts together on the thread. You'll have to join us there to see what we've all come up with.

Blows my mind. Same as another list I'm on (not political) and people get all bent when the subject matter strays, like they cannot ignore the thread if they aren't interested.

The story is a double mystery, with a sleazy, disgusting main suspect in the death. Then there is the mystery as to who is the daddy (if it is Howard, the baby was conceived by artificial insemination). It is also a freak show. People have always liked freak shows and mysteries.

This story also serves as a diversion. As another poster here stated, there is no reason why one cannot follow this story as well as other more important ones. For many, there is real concern for the baby if it remains in HKS's clutches. Nobody listened when ANS's mother on national TV expressed her fear after Daniel's death that her daughter might be next.

I'd rather watch ANS trial than see hillary's face on tv. For now, I'm tired of politics, unless it's about someone like Geffen talking about how good the clintons lie, lol. Methinks he was promised that pardon which they didn't deliver.

I meant to compliment you on your creativity. That was very cool :)

BTW, our ANS Thread has been going since Feb 8th. It is by DESIGN that we are going for a posting record.

You have to get into the thread to understand why..

I'll admit I found that tidbit very interesting; now I read Speilberg is throwing a party of Hillary.... must be interesting around the halls at Dreamworks these days.

Wow, it hasn't dissolved into a recipe thread in 15k posts? That's gotta be a first for FR.

Zook, you are definitely NOT the only one puzzled by this, but that's FR sometimes.

"Then, why are you concerned about it or that some of us do get it?"

Perhaps a brief anecdote will explain. About two hours ago, three uniformed men showed up at my d....oh, on second thought, that anecdote probably wouldn't explain anything at all.

Seriously, I was so concerned today that I almost couldn't remember how to make macaroni and cheese.

"It doesn't make you superior in any way if you aren't interested in that one." Well, no, that wasn't what made me superior. It all began seven years ago when I discovered a small glowing medalion near the base of Mt. Fuji....
