Great move by Saul Levine as KMZT becomes KKGO-FM (Go Country 105) on Monday.

This is one of the best decisions in a long time for the marketplace. Good for him and best of success.

Classical will still be served on 91.5, 1260, and KMZT HD.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Hollywood, dust off your cowboy boots and get ready to two-step: Country music is coming back to FM radio in Los Angeles.

On Monday, 105.1 FM in Los Angeles and Orange counties will become KKGO "Go Country 105," playing classics and new hits, according to a release from Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters Inc.

The city has been without an FM country station since KZLA changed formats in August after more than 20 years.

Company president Saul Levine said he picked up the country format on his AM station in Los Angeles after KZLA changed, but overwhelming listener demand prompted him to move it to the Los Angeles-based company's flagship station.

The previous 105.1 classical format, K-Mozart, will become a high-definition FM channel on another frequency. The classical format also will be simulcast on the new KMZT 1260 AM.

The loss of country radio in Los Angeles concerned industry officials. Two other large markets — New York and San Francisco — also have seen the demise of FM country stations in recent years.

Officials at the Nashville-based Country Music Association were upbeat Friday.

"Anytime a country radio station opens, it's a good thing for our industry. When a country radio station opens in a major market like Los Angeles, it's a wonderful thing for our industry," said Tammy Genovese, the CMA's chief operating officer.

Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters Inc. was scheduled to announce details of the change Monday at The Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills.
