What is a moggie? It sounds frightening, some sort of mud creature you'd find in a bog.

What is a moggie?

Just a Britishism for "cat". ;)

It's short for mongrel, aka a non pedigreed run of the mill, "heinz 57" house or street cat. One of My wifes favorite childhood books is "mog the forgetful cat" about a ginger moggie with a short memory. It is a term used with some endearment, from the time that i've heard native Britons use it in context.
