Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick will be allowed to call the shots.Vick, who wasn't happy about not being able to call audibles under former offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, has been given permission to change plays at the line of scrimmage by new head coach Bobby Petrino.
"We're going to put it all on him," Petrino said. "That's something that's new to him. It's something he's excited about. It's the way I believe you train a quarterback.
"You make him responsible for the protections; you make him responsible for what I call trumping the center -- when the center makes a protection call and the blitz shows something different."
Under Knapp, Vick's only options were to change the blocking scheme and flip the direction of running plays.
Knapp was fired after the season, along with head coach Jim Mora and most of the staff.
Petrino will begin installing the audible system during minicamp after the April draft.

"We're going to put it all on him."
Hahaha...this guy won't last long.
Why, oh why couldn't the Packers play the Dirty Birds next season?
I can't stand the guy. I expect him to flop with his new responsibilities, and the media to keep looking for a scapegoat. Mora should be happy he's out of there.
It must be Opposite Day.
IMO, Petrino is doing this as a precursor to shipping Vick out of Atlanta. Matt Schaub isn't going anywhere; the Falcons will apply the maximum RFA tender on him. And then he'll take over in 2008.
Of course, Petrino could always start Schaub at QB and Vick at RB...
"Mike, you're in charge of smuggling all of our weed onto commercial flights, just don't use that stupid water bottle anymore!"
