There are a lot of reasons to believe that Duncan is and will remain a long shot, chiefly the fact that he has no executive experience and Americans strongly prefer presidential candidates who have executive experience.

That doesn't mean Duncan should be treated with contempt. He is a deeply principled conservative and decent man. If he does nothing more than shape the debate and drive the other candidates more to the right, he will be a godsend.

Yes, well it was mentioned that Governor of Texas really doesn't have all that much power when it resides mainly with the Lt. Governor in 2000. Also, GWB was attacked as not having the foreign policy experience. Just really weak arguments that you are bringing forth. Hunter would more than handle the office effectively and has been a leader in the House with his important chaimanship over the armed services committee and KNOWS the issues and WHAT he is talking about. He doesn't have to ACT conservative and what good is that 'bringing the debate to the right' when you want to nominate candidates that are less and less conservative and resemble Demonrats in many ways. Your type of thinking is going to destroy the GOP because once principles go out for 'name recognition' or 'media stardom' there is no difference and no reason for people who feel strongly about the 2nd Amendment, abortion, the continued erosion of decent values, etc. are not going to have anything to gain by supporting the GOP.
