Can you cite an authoritative source for this claim? I have never heard of it.

I can't find the book that says the officers were executed [but I read it somewhere]. But London was off limits for deliberate bombing, by order of Hitler and Goering, until after the first British raid on Berlin [August 25-26]. Deliberate bombing of London began on September 7th, 1940. The accidental bombing had occurred on August 24th. According to "The Luftwaffe War Diaries" by Cajus Bekker [Ballantine Books 1971, p.241], cited in "Summer 1940: The Battle of Britain" by Roger Parkinson [1977],p.156; Goering transferred the officers in question to the infantry.
