The old one never had any work, so why don't they just leave the position unfilled?

We purchased a Maytag washer (high end front loading) and dryer about 2.5 years ago. The Maytag service guy has been out to repair the washer at least four times ... in one instance he replaced the entire circuit board. Contrast that with our old GE washer and dryer that we had for 16 years with maybe three service calls in the entire period. The Maytag repairman with nothing to do hype is total BS.

On the other hand, there's me, with a Maytag washer that's 8 years old and has never needed a service call. I don't know which of us is typical, although past experience tells me that sometimes you get extraordinarily lucky or extraordinarily unlucky with a particular product. My brother had a car that was continually in the shop, while a friend of his with the identical model never had a single problem.
