I thought the idea behind methadone for heroin users - was that it blocks the "high" that heroin normally gives, so the users have less cravings to seek it.

Methadone is not an opiate antagonist, like Narcan. Methadone will definitely get you high. It is an extremely potent opiate narcotic and highly regulated, at least here in the US. Methadone clinics are only supposed to give the addicts enough to maintain their tolerance level, not make them high, just enough so they can function without withdrawal symptoms.

I don't think so....From what I know about it is that it stops them from getting sick and their bodies going through withdrawal symptoms. My daughter had a problem with heroin when she was younger and we tried the methadone treatment. It didn't work for her. Going to jail and tough love finally worked after countless rehabs. The methadone was just an easy fix and she would get her methadone then try to sneak out & buy dope. Thankfully today she is clean & sober for years and has a good life.
