A friend of mine used to star in it when it was off-Broadway for years in NYC. (He later went on to star on Broadway in The Producers, Little Shop of Horrors, and others. He IS good.)

The show really is amusing, and some of the music is pretty good. "Run, Freedom, Run" is a great song from the show.

I’m glad to hear your friend is making it in a very tough and competitive profession – he really must be good.

“Urinetown” doesn’t sound like my “cup of tea” (ha ha) but who knows? The premise seems strange but at least it’s original. How may BW musicals are truly original now days? Mama Mia and Movin Out are based on single songs. How many more rivals of shows like Cats, Grease, Chicago, etc. can there be?

After reading the book, I’d like to see “Wicked” and I love Money Python and would like to see Spamalot but they are not original, as originally written as a BW play-musical and not an adaptation of some other work.

I will make an exception for The Producers – a movie – made into a BW musical – made back into a movie - just because only Mel Brooks could make “Springtime for Hitler” truly funny and I love Nathan Lane.
