No. 1 is what I'm afraid of.
Get a copy of "Your UNinstaller" and install it. It will completely uninstall anything AND remove all those garbage and orphaned registry entries that get left behind after Windows "uninstalls" a program.
It is worth its weight in gold especially if you are not comfortable searching and editing your registry.
Then get rid of Windows Defender. It is useles as stated in an earlier post. Get Spybot S & D and AdAware. Or spend some money on Webroot Spysweeper. Any of these 3 are better than Defender.
