Government admits lying about jailed border agents (DHS fesses up - Rep. Poe ticked!)

Inspector confronted on Capitol Hill, says promised 'proof' does not exist

A Department of Homeland Security official admitted today the agency misled Congress when it contended it possessed investigative reports proving Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean confessed guilt and declared they "wanted to shoot some Mexicans" prior to the incident that led to their imprisonment.

The admission came during the testimony of DHS Inspector General Richard L. Skinner before the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, according to Michael Green, press secretary for Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.

Culberson was questioning Skinner about a meeting DHS officials had Sept. 26 with him and three other Republican congressman from Texas, Reps. Ted Poe, Michael McCaul and Kenny Marchant.

WND previously reported that at that meeting the DHS Inspector General's office asserted it had documentary evidence Ramos and Compean:

1. confessed to knowingly shooting at an unarmed suspect;

2. stated during the interrogation they did not believe the suspect was a threat to them at the time of the shooting;

3. stated that day they "wanted to shoot a Mexican";

4. were belligerent to investigators;

5. destroyed evidence and lied to investigators.

Under questioning by Culberson, Skinner admitted DHS did not in fact have investigative reports to back up the claims: "The person who told you that misinformed you," Skinner reportedly replied.

This prompted a startled and angry response from the congressman.

"You lied to me and you lied to all of us," Culberson charged. "Your office tried to paint a picture of Ramos and Compean as dirty cops, and now you come before this committee and tell us you never had the information to back up those claims."

Ramos and Compean began prison sentences last month after their actions in the shooting of a drug smuggler who was granted immunity to testify against them.

Responding to Skinner's testimony yesterday, Poe said it "explains why DHS has been stonewalling Congress."

"DHS didn't turn over the reports to us to back up their September 26 accusations for one simple reason – the reports never existed," the Texas congressman said.

"Why did it take DHS four months to admit their error?" he asked. "I wonder how much more has DHS told the public and Congress about Ramos and Compean that simply isn't true?"

Poe said he's determined to get to the bottom of DHS's claim.

"I expect this new revelation will lead to a lot more questions before we're done," he said.

Andy Ramirez, who has been involved with the case as chairman of Friends of the Border Patrol, told WND the DHS's actions "represent obstruction of justice, and they should be held in contempt of Congress, and, if possible, prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

"This admission today is yet more proof of how they are willing to distort the facts, as I have charged all along, in order to ensure a conviction," he said.

"You could also read this release from the Justice Department"

I give about as much credence to the Injustice Dept. as to the MSM these days. They're the gang who let Sandy Burglar walk with a deal so lax even the judge was appalled.

Yep. Aztlan.net, that reliable source, which also runs stories like this one:

"Berg decapitation video was filmed inside the Abu Ghraib prison"

A really great source to be citing on a conservative site/s

I pretty much agree with you. I hear one thing then another so I really don't trust everything I have heard.....What I do believe is that something stinks when you take a drug dealer's word over 2 men that are guarding our borders. What is worse is that they went and found this guy and now he is suing the government. (our tax money) Maybe they didn't follow the rules but why they would get such a long sentence is hard for me to understand. IMO they should have just fired them if they were actually found guilty of not filing reports or whatever. I think this whole thing stinks. I just hope the truth comes out and soon. I hope these 2 men are in protected areas and that their families are alright. ~~P~~

I just can't believe you would actually cite Aztlan.net for "true" info about Ramos. Here are just a few of their lead stories today:

Don't forget the other BP agents who testified and then there's the testimony of Ramos and Compean themselves. I guess you can only trust the word of some BP agents but must disbelieve the testimony of other BP agents. You know the one's not on trial with everything to lose.

At least it's not a front for enemies of this country.

You just don't give up, do you? Your side is caught citing a racist, socialist Mexican front site as "evidence" of how evil Ramos is, and you won't admit a thing.

The other BP agents were given immunity, even though they were guilty of violations of procedure themselves. Prosecutors can twist little people like them with great ease. The real question is: Why did the govt. want to crush a couple of BP agents? How does a DHS agent get so chummy with a member of the drug cartel, and no one looks into his motives and background? Any ordinary cop who consorts with known crime figures would be in trouble, unless maybe the crooks are paid informants.

That's what it is. The Aztlan revolutionaries want reconquista of the land stolen from Mexico by the United States.

At least that dude revealed where he's coming from.

If you are reading correctly I am saying I don't know what to think. I just think the case stinks. I would hope thought that these men are protected as are sex offenders...You still have not given me my answer to that ....I think many government workers are crooks. But I wonder why the long sentence? You see so many people do far worse and go to jail for far less time. I am following it on the news and here but I tend not to trust the news media. ~~P~~

Yes, and it's really strange to find people on a conservative forum aggressively defending whatever our increasingly corrupt Federal govt. says. The government is the biggest racket on the planet, the only one which dwarfs drugs, gun-running, prostitution, and all the rest. They are also the most powerful and dangerous.

But redsss wants us to think World Net Daily is the real threat.

Let's look at another news nugget published by your source:

"Los Angeles, Alta Califronia - October 28, 2002 - (ACN) La Voz de Aztlan has recently reported on our doubts that many of the terrorist attacks in the U.S. and around the world are the work of Islamic fundamentalists, Muslims or Arabs. There is ample evidence that these terrorist attacks are actually being committed by certain rogue elements of the U.S. and Israeli governments. In order to justify our doubts, we are making available to our readership below, the damning and shocking top secret "Northwoods Project" document that has been declassified and obtained through the Freedom of Information Act...."

I think theres so much more to this....The sentence is too long and I really don't see the big deal. I think anyone coming over our border needs to be shot anyway if they are caught with drugs or smuggling people. If our border was guarded as it well should be ...then this may not have happened. I guess somebody important didn't get their 700 hundred pounds of pot. ~~P~~

I too wish them no harm and hope that they are not attacked. But my point was and is, we don't know if such protections only consisted of going into solitary segregated housing, i.e. 23 hr a day lock down, and he chose not to go that route. I'd like to know before I start calling the CO staff and the warden conspirators in a murder plot. The long sentence was mandatory and is part of the law of unintended consequences but people are always yelling for more prison time and stiffer sentences and complaining about judges giving lax sentences so we need more mandatory sentencing, blah blah blah. You can always count on the government to use a law intended for one purpose, and to use it for something entirely different. RICO statutes come to mind. Do a google on Michael Zinn and see what his experience with the federal government was like. Ask Dog the Bounty Hunter for that matter.

"Northwood Project?"

This site is as phony as Hollywood. They are claiming General Lyman Lemnitzer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is a Zionist and a Jewish operative for Israel.

Pelham, are you a DU plant, a Muzzie, or a newly arrived "citizen" of southern California?

Dog the Bounty Hunter .....That was a silly case and I don't know how much I buy of it anymore. I think that was a joke in many ways. You know as I know that there was no need to break down his door etc. I signed the petition and the case p!st me off. Why isn't that still in the news 24/& or did I miss something?..... But I can not compare the two cases. I know cops lie for cops and the whole system seems to be morally corrupt somewhere down the line in all parts of this government. I wish it wasn't so but the more I read the more I see corruption. I live in NJ where its so corrupt its not unusual to read the newspaper each day and see a mayor or someone taking bribes. ..... I really think there is more to this case and I hope it comes to light soon. ~~P~~

Really? OK, name them--and state what you are doing to right those injustices.
