Some years ago I read about an archeological dig in Alaska. Apparently an eskimo fishing camp was crushed by a sudden ice shove, killing an entire family.
We lived in Menominee a few years back. Ice shoves were a concern every spring when the ice would break up on the bay. I think one year a used car lot on the shore lost a few cars to one. It was very dependent on wind direction as to whom would be at risk. We had a huge pile of rip rap on our shore and never experienced it first hand.
