Will global warming swamp new stadium?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Monday, February 5, 2007 | Phillip Matier, Andrew Ross

Everyone figures that nightmarish traffic jams are the worst problem the Oakland A's will face if they move to the bayfront wilds of Fremont. But their biggest challenge may be something they hadn't thought of -- global warming.

The A's want to build their ballpark and mall village on low-lying land west of Interstate 880, less than half a mile from a tidal channel. With ocean levels expected to rise as the globe heats up, the high tides that churn up that channel could turn the A's ballpark into prime waterfront property -- or into soup.

Before long, it will be illegal to build anything in Khaliforniastan for fear of damaging something or someone.

Anyone who still buys into the phony theory (okay, hysteria) of manmade "global warming" has NOT been reading books written by actual scientists. See my tag regarding one useless idiot.

With ocean levels expected to rise as the globe heats up...

I'll believe in Global Warming® when beachfront property drops to <$1/acre.

If a 10 inch rise over the next hundred years is going to turn the stadium into soup, then perhaps they should seek higher ground.

Sounds like a good negotiating tool if you run into one of those whackos. Hey, your place is going to be worthless in a few years once the Oceans rises up 10 feet. Why not sell it to me before it is too. I'll take this nightmare off your hands.

Nah--they can just build a 24 inch levee around the stadium and associated parking.

This will give them the option of flooding the field and staging naval battles as the Romans did in the Colosseum.

IPCC says 11 to 23 inches by 2100, certainly not the one meter the one alarmist in the article is talking about.

I suspect that in San Fransicko, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting one of those whackos.

And I guarentee, IPCC predictions will be 2 to 3 times overstated. They just assume worst case on too many factors. The probability that things will be as bad as they say is about zero.
