Merriam-Webster | Slip 18

February 6, 2007 Tuesday, VERTIGO

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

VERTIGO

Pronunciation: ve-’ti-go
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -goes or –gos
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin vertigin-, vertigo, from vertere to turn

1 a : a sensation of motion in which the individual or the individual's surroundings seem to whirl dizzily b : a dizzy confused state of mind
2 : disordered vertiginous movement as a symptom of disease in lower animals; also : a disease (as gid) causing this.

No gid in giddyups today. We have lessoms to learn.

Asked how they felt after listening to Hillary's speech many in the audience replied that they were overcome with vertigo. Several people had to avail themselves of the sick bags that came along with the program.

Anyone in a room with Hillary needs to be handed a barf bag. Aside from vertigo, she's one ugly woman.

A++++ for you, jla! Welcome aboard!

San Fran Mayor Gavin Newsome is checking into rehab for his moral vertigo.

I'm amazed that people make a big deal of this. He's a Democrat, there for we should all just move on.

I mean to me the only thing amazing about this story is that it proves there is still heterosexual sex in San Fran...

No, but the worst of it will be. There is still another 4 weeks to go before it is all done.

Sunday we unloaded a tractor trailer loaded with cookies for all the GS troops in this and the next county. Yesterday me and the 2 co-leaders of our troop sorted the 50 cases our girls sold by individual girl. Tonight they are picking them up. This afternoon I have to sort Jax' so she can start delivery of what she sold tomorrow.

Why I volunteered to be cookie Mom is something I have yet to figure out :)

Vertigo vertiginous,
A spin to sink the best of us,
But that wobbly ear,
Is nothing to fear,
Unlike rooftop winds that buffet and gust.

There once was a man from Nantucket,
Who, when holding a banjo, would pluck it,
He'd drawl with a smile,
And keep plucking in style,
When that mood hit he just couldn't buck it!
