Laptop will boot normally as long as the battery is removed prior to startup. Can add battery after windows loads and everything will work fine and can even work off of the battery only; battery holds power (little over hour) and recharges fine.

If battery is present during startup the computer freezes at log in and not even the power button (forced shut down) will work.

Have cleaned battery terminals and used compressed air to remove any dust---Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I think this Acer kind of sucks, but it is for a home schooler parent/family with limited money.

Kind of strange, I have a dell laptop with a completely dead battery and it never gives me a problem booting up.

See if there is any utility on the computer for power management, should be something by Acer. Many laptops do have power management utilities, there might be some setting that may affect the boot up cycle.

You should replace it with a Mac.

Just kidding. I couldn't help myself - with all the iSnobs FReeping around these days.

Can't help with your battery problem. Good luck.
