Merriam-Webster | Slip 18

January 30, 2007, Tuesday, FULMINATE

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

FULMINATE

Pronunciation: ful-mi-‘nate
Function: Verb
Inflected Form(s): -nat·ed; -nat·ing

Etymology: Middle English, from Medieval Latin fulminatus, past participle of fulminare, from Latin, to strike (of lightning), from fulmin-, fulmen lightning; akin to Latin flagrare to burn.

transitive verb:

1: To utter or send out with denunciation (fulminate a decree)

intransitive verb:

1: To send forth censures or invectives - ful·mi·na·tion

Noun

Etymology: fulminic acid, from Latin fulmin-, fulmen

1: An often explosive salt (as mercury fulminate) containing the group -CNO

*Cyber fulminates that poor sweet little Simba every morning.*

Ah, well it may warm up a tad here today, not much though. It's still Winter.

Did ya have a good sleep?

I did after I crashed at 4:00am this morning EST. UGH!

Didn't put your name together with it:

"They're all dead, Dave. Everyone is dead, Dave. They're all dead, Dave."

I crashed at 2:30 Mountain and got up at 5:00 to get Cyber's coffee. LOL!

There was a thread on FR this morning (after 5:00) about insomnia. There's now supposed to be a cure. It doesn't say it, but it probably causes liver disease, then you have a long nice sleep.

Hysterical, Truthie. I think I'm in backwards mode today. Ugghhhh. My favorite line is "fat mule in those old "Francis" movies."

A++++ for you. And now I will continue to go backwards.

Some article, loved the comments. ;)

I would not say I suffer from insomnia. I just get to wound up to give up. I fight everything until I collapse. Always been that way. My mom said when I as a babe in arms, she would be getting ready for bed and I would be ready to rock and roll. I was a night person until recent years. Now I turn in early and get up early.

My sleeping patterns shift and change throughout the seasons.

I am a bit odd. ;)

"You are visitor number 7374692345780 since Rimmer last had it off."

ROTFLMAO.

Schmeggie Cyber knows all the words to that song. We still have to get the last four DVDs, just haven't done it yet.

Bet you have!

Hey, Dutch, where have you been?

I found a book on the Red Hat Society with some historical data but also marvelous recipes.

I'm trying to find out if they are political, because I don't want to be in fisticuffs with anyone, but it appears it's just a fun group. They go to museums, plays, luncheons, things like that.

Did you know you may only wear a pink hat until you hit the ripe old age of 50 years old?

Okay, I'm allowed to wear the red hat. Sheesh.

I don't have the disposable income, so I make do with my VHS tapes from PBS and BBC America. I've got every episode through all 8 seasons, except for one or two I've misplaced.

They are expensive. $64 for two. And I think the last two were a bit more than that. Yes, they are expensive. But I saw the whole set on e-bay just recently.
