How's the cellphone service up there? What are the best companies? Is it better to keep the lower 48 plan for communicating with the folks at home? My kids are moving up there, and I need info so as to not freak out at the fact that they insist on taking my 3 yr old grandson with them! Parents!! Ungrateful kids, you'd think if someone offered to give you, the parents, a whole year off from raising the best little boy on the planet, you'd think they'd take me up on it, right????
So, I need help and info from locals, please. (Oh, I'm talking about the Fairbanks area)

Don't go ... it snows 10 months a year, it's dark for six and there's no trees .... just bears and mosquito's the size of hummingbirds .....

Its remote from everything. Its the only mainland state without freeways and just a few major cities. You have to be a hardy soul to survive up in Alaska. Good luck on your move up to the 49th.

If anything bad ever happens to your eyes as a result of some sort of conflict with anyone named Nanook, the only way you can get it fixed up is to go trudgin' across the tundra - mile after mile.

LOL...............
Alaska is perfect for kids.. especially boy kids..
More fish to fish, game to hunt, trails to follow, and wide open spaces to explore than anywhere.. Boat, Dirtbike and ATV heaven.. I regret that I came here long after my children were grown up with familys of their own..
Not only that but mountains that make the Rockeys look like the Smokies.. mere hills..
So many Salmon of many kinds that in places you can walk on them to get across streams..
A perfect place for a grandma or grandpa to experience together with them and get to know one another.. and learn about the beautys of God's green earth..

What are the best companies? Not a lot of choice. When the optical cable was cut last time, Fairbanks was cut off. Everything. 3000 miles from the world.
