Question......I have always been told by "dog" people that you should take the puppy home (away from mom and the pack) at 7 weeks. Long enough to learn some social skills, but long enough for the pups to develop a pecking order and anti-social behavior.

Why 9 weeks?

Thanks.

_____

Most of what I've read is between 9 and 12 weeks, gives them enough time for social interaction with the other pups and enough time for various tests, shots, etc.

You can also take one from a breeder that's been there longer too, you have a much better gauge on what their personality is, if it's a good breeder you will probably get a well adjusted, social dog.

None of the breeders I know (over 20 breeders) won't release any of their puppies before 8 weeks, and they prefer 9 weeks. By 8 weeks, they are weaned and the extra weeks allow for mom to teach them socializing manners.
