The American Pie Council's Call to Action to 'Pay it Forward'
CHICAGO, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Random acts of pieness are being performed across the nation in honor of National Pie Day on January 23, and people everywhere are being surprised and delighted by good deeds from their fellow man. It's all part of the American Pie Council's (APC) call to action to "pay it forward" by sharing pie with loved ones and strangers alike to celebrate pie and spread goodwill. "The great tradition of pie has a way of invoking childhood memories of warm feelings and the closeness of sharing with others that makes everyone feel good," said Linda Hoskins, Executive Director of the American Pie Council. "Why not pass that special feeling onto others? Get two pies when you're at the grocery store -- one to enjoy with your family and one to give to the person behind you in line. Bring a pie to a new neighbor and get to know each other over a slice of pie. You might indulge your co-workers and bring some pie to work, or you can say 'thank you' to someone with a warm hug wrapped in a delicious crust."
Here's a snapshot of activities taking place around the country for National Pie Day:
-- Four Points® by Sheraton is celebrating "Happy Pie Hour" and serving free pie by Sara Lee on January 23 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in more than 40 hotels throughout North America, including New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., California and Canada. -- Bakers Square is hosting free pie-making on January 23 at 26 locations in Minnesota's Twin Cities between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m., as well as sharing and making pies with 60 kids at the St. Louis Park Kid's Cafe (Second Harvest) between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. -- Village Inn in Denver, Colorado will be making pies at the Lowery Elementary School. -- Thousands of Mrs. Smith's customers can receive a colorful 2007 calendar filled with coupons and scrumptious pictures of desserts by going to http://www.mrssmithscalendar.com . -- Cyrus O'Leary's Pies in Washington will be teaching pie-making to students as well as passing out free pie and pie coupons throughout their community. -- Zehnder's of Frankenmuth, the Michigan Apple Committee and Pioneer Sugar are presenting the Zehnder's Snowfest Best Michigan Apple Pie Contest. The winner will be sent to the APC/Crisco® National Pie Championships in April. -- The Sand Sifters, a volunteer group dedicated to cleaning up the Boynton Beach area of Florida, enticed volunteers with free pie slices donated by Sara Lee. -- Taxi drivers across Chicago will hang apple pie-scented air fresheners from the American Pie Council -- they'll "pay it forward" by giving their passengers the comforting aroma of apple pie as they travel along their journey.
The fun extends beyond National Pie Day. The 2007 Great American Pie Festival will be held April 21 and 22 in Celebration, Florida and will feature a never-ending pie buffet. It will be held in conjunction with the APC/Crisco® National Pie Championships, where commercial, professional, junior chef and amateur pie-makers will compete to earn the title of America's best pie.
The American Pie Council is the only organization committed to maintaining America's pie heritage, passing on the tradition of pie-making and promoting America's love affair with pie. JERRY: I'm sorry. There's no reason for her not to taste that pie.
ELAINE: Who wouldn't taste a pie?
JERRY: Audrey.
ELAINE: Dump her.
JERRY: Boy, I never broke up with anyone for not tasting pie???
ELAINE: I once broke up with someone for not offering me pie.
JERRY: You did?
ELAINE: He could be eating a Hero, he wouldn't offer me anything. It's a sickness.
Random acts of pieness. Punkin pie i hope.
So on National Pea Day, do we celebrate with random acts of pea-ness?
I'm wondering if The Rock knows about this.
What are you doing to that chocolate bar??
Plus she eats her peas one at a time.
Again with the peas. (See #4).
What we need is a National Orange Day. We've forgotten what it's like to have no oranges.
I know, I know. I must go now.
