Sorry - not trying to insult yours or anyone else's baby. But at least as far as I'm concerned, it takes at least some weeks or months before I can discern a real personality in a baby. In less attractive terms, a blob with no personality. I don't see this as an insult or degrading - and not a literal insult. More like when John Houseman in the The Paper Chase tells the L1s that they come in here "with a skull full of mush." He doesn't really mean that they have skulls full of mush, and I don't really meant that the baby is a blob, but that's the type of language some of use to describe aspects of the personality we are referring to. In other words, it's meant to be more of a humorous description than an insulting reference. At least as far as I'm concerned.
