PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Former POW Jessica Lynch became a mother on Friday, giving birth to a girl whom she named in honor of a fallen comrade.
Dakota Ann Robinson was delivered by Caesarean section at a local hospital at 5:10 p.m. The infant weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, said Lynch's publicist, Aly Goodwin Gregg.
"She's fabulous and fat," Gregg said. "She's beautiful."
Lynch and her boyfriend, Wes Robinson, named Dakota in honor of Lynch's friend, Army Spc. Lori Piestewa of Tuba City, Ariz., who was the first woman to be killed in combat in Iraq. Piestewa's middle name was Ann, and Dakota which means friendship or ally, Gregg said.
Lynch and Piestewa served together in the 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss, Texas. They were roommates there and tentmates in Iraq. Piestewa died and Lynch was captured when their unit was ambushed on March 23, 2003, near Nasiriyah.
Lynch suffered two spinal fractures, nerve damage and a shattered right arm, right foot and left leg when her Humvee crashed during the firefight.
The story of her capture and dramatic nighttime rescue made her an instant celebrity. The 23-year-old Palestine native is now a sophomore at West Virginia University-Parkersburg. Gregg said she probably will take a semester off or take online courses.
While Lynch still has health problems, Gregg said she came through the C-section "like a champ."
"Jessie's doing great, the baby did great," she said. "She's easy to love, absolutely beautiful."

She didn't insult you. She was simply stating fact. That it looks viscious, cruel and mean spirited, and not a behavior to emulate.
I think it's wonderful there's a new baby in the world. I think it's wonderful that Jessica was able to have a child after sustaining her injuries. I think it's wonderful that the father is joyous about his new daughter.

Absolutely. Sniping busybodies are fair game in my book. :~)

Look,
I'm twice married and widowed.
And I will be the first to tell you that marriage ain't the be all and end all of relationships. Some folks do just as well not married and for some folks, it's not a good thing.
What bothers me is the focus on that in a much larger, and happier story. With all the crap and horror in the word, this is getting fussy over navel lint.

Not to belittle Jessica's service to the country, but she is entirely a creation of the media. Her blond hair, blue eyes and a mixture of truth and lies(more lies than truth) made for great televsion (= sponsorship) and book deals. No different from the stories of Natalie Holloway and others.
I don't see cover stories, book deals and 24/7 coverage about the amputees at Walter Reed ? Anytime I get the feeling the media is about to launch a story about a babe in distress, I change the channel. Not that I don't like looking at pretty babes; I will not help the media cash in on a story made out of a non story.

it looks viscious, cruel and mean spirited, and not a behavior to emulate. It is vicious, cruel and mean spirited and not a behavior to emulate to not marry the mother of your children. To celebrate the activity is bad, too.

There was no discussion and that's a sad commentary on our society. That the article was polite and didn't probe into her personal life for failures to criticize and ridicule her about? I don't find that a particularly sad commentary. I suppose in a more proper society they would have just dragged her into a public square and shot her, as a lesson to all women. You know... the kind of society she was held captive by when we all first heard her name.
There are worse societal ills than giving people the freedom to live their own lives. In my opinion freedom makes good marriages truly valuable when they happen, for they are voluntary and not coerced by a bunch of gossiping busybodies who really don't care how good and well founded a marriage is, only that it happens, for appearances, you know.

This gal served this country and was injured in that service. And she gets picked apart on this forum like a wounded chicken. It makes no sense to me at all.
Serving in the military justifies bearing an illegitimate child? Doing something noble by defending your country doesn't legitimize an immoral act. That line of reasoning becomes a slippery slope. If we condone one immoral act then it would be hypocritical to condemn another. Extending that reasoning it will be acceptable for a veteran to commit a crime because he or she served in the military.
Those who oppose such behavior are accused of considering themselves morally superior when in fact it's a matter of knowing right from wrong. Trivializing marriage by condoning out of wedlock births is wrong.

Call me bad,
I'll call you bad.
Whatever.
She may be the one who didn't want to marry. We don't know. Personally, I don't care, because I believe in staying out of others business.
I do care that the ugliest aspects of 'conservativism' are held up as a standard. And then people whine when elections are lost.
It's a no brainer of why when you read here.

When all the single moms want big government to subsidize their fatherless children you can pay my portion of the taxes.

Yes, since we don't know her at all, our only relationship with her is the knowledge that she was once a soldier. That aspect alone does usually afford one some degree of respect and politeness on this board. I don't think we routinely pick soldiers apart for things to ridicule them about when we see their faces on TV. Only Jessica gets that. Now, mind your own business about when and if she marries, or risk looking like the very kind of mean-spirited busybody no one will ever want to follow in this country.

Maybe they'll get married. Maybe they won't. But either way I doubt they'll be calling ~me~ for permission. I've got my own life to make decisions about, so maybe I'm just too busy to intercede in the lives of others when it's really none of my business. Or maybe I'm just not so bitter. Dunno.
You forget her publicist made a public announcement. She wants everyone to know her personal life. Life would seem so much easier if we all become so engrossed in our own lives we don't consider there is a world beyond ourselves. Knowing what is immoral/wrong should be you're concern as someday it may effect your little world. Apathy towards immoral behavior is tantamount to accepting the behavior and thereby allowing it to spread.

Poor example. There is no subsidy here.

And I will be the first to tell you that marriage ain't the be all and end all of relationships.
Thank you for proving my point how marriage is becoming increasingly trivial due to lack of commitment. Many people who are married consider marriage the be all and end all of relationships because they are totally committed to their spouse.
Some folks do just as well not married and for some folks, it's not a good thing.
I couldn't agree more some people aren't meant to be married but that doesn't justify bearing children out of wedlock. Most uncommitted relationships result in one the man abandoning the woman and kid(s). Children who grow up in dysfunctional households have a much tougher time having stable lives. People should consider these consequences before they shack up.

Were both arms amputated and replaced with scary stuff, or how do you explain the photo you posted?I'd say no. I looks like the photographer stood too close to her to take the shot, so that the lens made the arms look disproportionately large.

In the photo, it appears one arm is black and the other one white. The white arm appears to have some sort of skin fold coming down over massive club fingers.
I concur that it's a photographic anomaly. She's a pretty woman, not a monster. You wouldn't know it from that photo.

Funny how that works. Individually, these illegitimate children don't cost me a cent, right? As a group, they are draining the country dry.
