PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Former POW Jessica Lynch became a mother on Friday, giving birth to a girl whom she named in honor of a fallen comrade.

Dakota Ann Robinson was delivered by Caesarean section at a local hospital at 5:10 p.m. The infant weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, said Lynch's publicist, Aly Goodwin Gregg.

"She's fabulous and fat," Gregg said. "She's beautiful."

Lynch and her boyfriend, Wes Robinson, named Dakota in honor of Lynch's friend, Army Spc. Lori Piestewa of Tuba City, Ariz., who was the first woman to be killed in combat in Iraq. Piestewa's middle name was Ann, and Dakota which means friendship or ally, Gregg said.

Lynch and Piestewa served together in the 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss, Texas. They were roommates there and tentmates in Iraq. Piestewa died and Lynch was captured when their unit was ambushed on March 23, 2003, near Nasiriyah.

Lynch suffered two spinal fractures, nerve damage and a shattered right arm, right foot and left leg when her Humvee crashed during the firefight.

The story of her capture and dramatic nighttime rescue made her an instant celebrity. The 23-year-old Palestine native is now a sophomore at West Virginia University-Parkersburg. Gregg said she probably will take a semester off or take online courses.

While Lynch still has health problems, Gregg said she came through the C-section "like a champ."

"Jessie's doing great, the baby did great," she said. "She's easy to love, absolutely beautiful."

There sure is a lot of hate and anger in the 'holier than thou' bible thumpers around here! Not exactly good Christians, i say!

It seems post 18 is the first one to actually show some tact here. Thank you Theresawithanh

Congratulations to the new parents.

It looks at this time like the child will have a father.

Somebody made that baby, that's for sure.

Yes, somebody made that baby, and they are still together...both seem very proud. There is no indication that the baby will be without a father.

I understand. Marriage means nothing to you.

That's not true, but it means more to me to follow one of God's rules to "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Mat 7:1

bastard children

How old are you? Normally I only hear that term from people over 80. I guess they are dying out.

Misunderstood and Misused Scripture (excerpt)

One of the best known and most misunderstood and misapplied Scriptures is "Judge not" (Matthew 7:1). Let us examine the entire passage:

"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" (Matthew 7:1-5).

Read this again carefully. Notice that it is addressed to a hypocrite!-not to those who sincerely want to discern whether a teacher or teaching is true or false to God's Word. And instead of being a prohibition against honest judgment, it is a solemn warning against hypocritical judgment. In fact, the last statement of this Scripture commands sincere judgment-"Then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

All I can find in the article is good news about someone that served her country, endured a very difficult time, and is putting her life together and has given birth to a beautiful baby girl.

Thank you.

There are few subjects that make me more angry than the bile I read on this forum about Jessica Lynch.

This gal served this country and was injured in that service. And she gets picked apart on this forum like a wounded chicken. It makes no sense to me at all.

Good luck to you Jessica. I for one respect you and your contribution to this great country of ours. Just one of many great American stories, you were just unlucky enough to get the spotlight, and with it, the vultures of public ridicule.

LOL... this just strikes me as funny.

Maybe they'll get married. Maybe they won't. But either way I doubt they'll be calling ~me~ for permission. I've got my own life to make decisions about, so maybe I'm just too busy to intercede in the lives of others when it's really none of my business. Or maybe I'm just not so bitter. Dunno.

However, I was disgusted how people were trying to make her out to be this Rambolina for Political Correctness reasons. I am not sure she wanted to be the poster girl for woman in combat, but I guess like everyone she's going to cash in. I don't necessarily blame her, but why does she need a publicist?

Very few made her out to be a Rambolina, and those only for a few days immediately surrounding her capture and release. And you wonder why she needs a publicist? She was pushed into the spotlight and has been fighting for the truth to be told about her ever since. A little bit of misplaced accolades by other people and propaganda in a time of war about a pretty young soldier who suffered and survived in no way justifies the hateful responses that have been directed at her ever since. How dare people feel affection and respect for a wounded American gal from West Virgina. That threatens the ethos of all who think serving your country is inherently honorable unless you are female... and supporting our troops means 'unless they are women'.

Zactly. I guess it's a hot-button issue for me too. That tendency for the vultures around here to circle around and crow about how they're so superior they'd have never let that happen to them.

Something about pride going before a fall, methinks.

My current favorites are the ones that think if they were a kidnapped 11 year old boy they wouldn't have been brainwashable. They would have known better. Therefore there must be something wrong with the kid, having let himself get in that position.

It's about pride, and not in a good way.

Like I said. I understand. You see no value in a father publicly claiming his child and taking legal responsibility and emotional responsibility for the child's upbringing. A lot of people think that way now days.

Umm... As I read the post you replied to, the subject was minding our own business. No one has said they don't value marriage... some of us just value other things as well, like good manners and decorum and speaking civilly about a woman who is perhaps not the wisest target for any and all public scorn. Compared to Jessica Lynch, you look mean-spirited and bitter, which will convince NO ONE that you are one who should ever be emulated.

I must have missed the part in the article that discussed their plans or commitment to each other and the baby.

There was no discussion and that's a sad commentary on our society.

Dang... I'm just not finding unhappiness in there.

That's not surprising since more people are not bothered that marriage is becoming increasingly trivial. So don't worry. Sleep around and be happy!
