Ten years ago, it was fashionable to beat up on Apple. They were a laughingstock and on their way to obscurity. I think the only people still using Apples 10 years ago were hairy, sandal-wearing beatnik looking people who wore Jackson Browne T-shirts and went around humming John Lennon songs.

But this company has had one heck of a turnaround and they are now starting to mint money. As a longtime Windows devotee, even I have to admit that Apple's OS X is superior to anything Microsoft ever put out (including VISTA) and their iPods were simply the greatest consumer product ever invented since maybe the television set. It is my opinion that within 5 years, Apple will be in position to knock Microsoft off their perch. I think Steve Jobs is one strange dude but he has done an awesome job turning around Apple.

I watch live streaming FOX News on my Treo wherever I go, run software applications like Excel and Quicken, even remote control distant computers. The iPhone may match that feature set, but despite the hot sales the iPod it doesn't currently seem to place the same level of capability into one's Palm, pardon the pun.

Every time I think about Microsoft the letters GM pop into my head.

Getting an iPod was the turning point for me.

I had an Archos 400 for playing MP3's and allegedly it would play TV shows I recorded on my PC. However, moving those TV programs to the ARCHOS involved all sorts of conversions and DivX stuff and half the time the audio didn't synch with the video...plus, Windows hated working with the Archos software...so synching music etc. was horrible.

So, I got the iPOD...then got into Rush's PODCASTS...then started surfing the APPLE website and in August, made the leap with an iMAC 20" dual core...it is truly amazing. Yeah, there have been some weird lock ups and the USB port kept insisting on starting the TV Tuner during the night, but those were easily fixed.

OS X and ALL the integrated software is very cool and they all work together seamlessly. THen I got the daughter a MacBook Pro, dual core 15" and now we can iCHAT video phone call each other while she's at University and we're at home...

IF you have some 'extra' $$$ and want to start having FUN on a computer again, just get one. They are simple and they DO work.
