We can only trace on my Mother's side, as my Dad's side were boat people as well. However, my husband explained to me that only certain groups of people even recorded births/deaths, so almost everyone who can trace their ancestry to Europe is related.

My husband, like almost everyone else who can trace anything, is decended from Kenneth MacAlpin, who was the first King Of Scotland. Doesn't make a dang bit of difference, or make anyone special, just shows that zillions are decended from him.

There was once on Discovery or History a show "The Many Faces of Jesus" that showed his likenesses in various nations/cultures thru the ages, and it's every possible combination you can think of, from red hair and whispy beard to dark skinned with a deep beard and afros.

It is more likely that you are related to Katherine Hepburn, imo. She would have been perfect to play the "who's the alpha dog" scene with xspup, if we were to make a movie of his exploits.

LOL on the DAR thing. Jax actually qualifies for membership, as do her only 2 first cousins, and my 2 SILs, and we have all the paper trails necessary.........

Both of my SILs are older than I am, the 2 cousins are both in their 20s, and not a single one has ever given a hoot about joining. Every once in a while I threaten hubby with putting Jax in for membership - the look I get. LOL!!!!!

Gabz, does Jax qualify for the Mayflower Society? I don't but my kids do.

It appears that Whyisa and my husband's family are all of the same mindset.

As for me, I guess I should be seeking apologies since some of my family arrived as not much better than indentured servants.

Reparations! lol

I'm not much into geneology, but my husband has even done the DNA test which traces his tribe back to Africa. I've been teasing him for months now that he's an African.

I don't know about the Mayflower Society, it's never been mentioned. It's a possibility because hubby's father's family is from New England. The DAR connection is through Nathan Hale's family. He was Jax 6X great uncle, his brother was her 6X great grandfather. But there are other family connections all intertwined up there.

The family cemetary in NH will always be a reason for me to want to go back, but the next time I would like to do it in July, as opposed to late October :)

My comment was in reference to a Virginia legislator's comments that have been making headlines today because he basically said those seeking apologies and/or reparations for slavery should get over it.

oh i know, but it is amusing to have people bandying about their ancestry as if somehow they are special.
