Player population in North America now exceeds 2 million, while Europe and China pass the 1.5 million player and 3.5 million player marks, respectively

IRVINE, Calif. – January 11, 2007 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that World of Warcraft®, its subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), is now played by more than 8 million gamers around the world. World of Warcraft has also achieved new regional subscriber milestones, with more than 2 million players in North America, more than 1.5 million players in Europe, and more than 3.5 million players in China.

"We're ecstatic that the World of Warcraft community has continued to grow steadily since we launched the game," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment®. "This milestone wouldn't have been possible for us to achieve without the incredible support of our players. With the release of our expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, coming next week, we're looking forward to welcoming more players to Azeroth and offering even more quality content for our community to enjoy."

Since debuting in North America on November 23, 2004, World of Warcraft has become the most popular MMORPG around the world. Today, World of Warcraft is available in seven different languages and is played in North America, Europe, mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

World of Warcraft will soon see the launch of its first expansion, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, which will be available in North America and Europe on January 16, 2007. The expansion will be available in Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand the same week, with availability in mainland China and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau to be announced at a later date. The Burning Crusade will add a tremendous amount of new content to the game, including an entire new continent to explore; an increase in the level cap up to 70, complete with new talents and abilities; flying mounts; new quests, creatures, and items; new dungeons; two new playable races; a new profession; and more.

" wuv it! ;) Expansion comes out Tuesday. Woot!"

I got a key to the Closed Beta, they did a very, very, very good job. The whole game changes Tuesday, and for the better, for the most part (The economy is going to get wierd, lots of changes there, basic materials are going to be in HUGE demand) - I can't wait! Just wait until you see the Blood Elf Starting zone, and the Draenii Capitol city, it's amazing!

60 Rogue (Dragonblight)
28 Warlock (Dragonblight)
27 Druid (Dragonblight)

Amazing.

I have a level 60 Warrior but don't have the time in my life to run the dungeons for uber loot to compete with the 24/7 power gamers, so I just let it go. I'm still debating whether or not to get into the expansion that's coming out soon.

"For all you FR WOW addicts out there, the most successful MMORPG ever keeps getting bigger."
"Criminy. WoW makes EverCrack look like Sanka?"

WoW makes Everquest look like tap water.

But I have to say, Final Fantasy players are more obsessed and addicted, overall. Those guys take it REALLY seriously - but then, the amount of time they need to spend to do anything, compared to Wow, you HAVE to be crazy, or obsessed.

For those of you who don't know, that's 8 Million people each paying $15 bucks a month. That's....a lot.

"I cannot WAIT to get me a Blood Elf! I'm seriesly considering calling in sick Tuesday. :)"

Bood Elfs are really, really fun, I'm gonna play one, but my time, limited as it is, is commited to an Alliance raiding guild, but I have a guaranteed invite to a Horde raid guild. :)

I honestly don't expect to get much done next week, the servers are going to be slammed, and the usual crashes and rollbacks will probably be going on - the starting zones for both new races, and Outland, are going to be PACKED, with 20-30 people (or more) fighting for the same mobs. I'm planning on playing the auction house, I figured out the materials people are going to need a LOT of and have been stockpiling it. If you have stockpiles of herbs, ore, bars (ores and bars and gems especially, jewelcrafting takes a LOT of it) leather, and enchanting mats, you should be able to make some nice profit the next couple of weeks. :)

If anyone wants to start a FR guild, I'm in - on a new server, preferrably! And make it Horde, I want a Blood Elf too!

What does AV mean? I think it's something I need to get into, as soon as I'm high-level enough.

AV=Alterac Valley

It's a PVP Battleground that you can enter once you're level 51+

You can get into it from the same places in Ironforge/Stormwind (Alliance) and Ogrimmar/Undercity (I think) for Horde (been a long time sicne I played a horde toon, so I'm a bit fuzzy.)

No, it's not. It's about 3.5m people paying $15/month (US/Europe) and 4.5m paying less via internet cafes etc. in the Pac Rim.

It's still a lot!
